Preventing a Honda Civic Theft.
How often do honda civics get stolen in NJ? is it possible for the thief to actually take out the engine? I just turned 17 and will be needing a car soon. The Honda Civic between the years 1994-2000 is in my interest. Only thing is that i heard that Civics get stolen a lot in my city and i really want to use this car for more than just a commuter vehicle but don't really want to plan an engine swap if i know the car or engine will get stolen. Thanks.

a thief will take anything, its only a matter of time and availability. Literally!
You can make it hard for them with extra locks, re-routing or even removing the hood release cable. Use a fuel pump cutoff switch so it cannot be cranked unless they know exactly how to bypass it. Put an alarm on, alarms wont deter a really good thief but, it at least lets him know that he has to work faster than without an alarm. Get creative with keeping your car in your posession.
The year car you are looking at, has to be the easiest most stolen car.

Like he said. Just do simple things to keep a theif away since you live in ny there is alot of honda's to choose from and my thinking if you had a alarm they would just simply move on to the next civic with out other then risking the chance of getting caught. It's far more work to disable a alarm then to just get somthing with out. Granted though if a theif wants somthing he/she will get it no matter what. If you do get your car keep it stock looking as possible they mostly go after cars with rims, stickers, body kits, jdm stuff ect.. its just easyier to unload that stuff and there normally more done to a car if it has one or all of those things.
Get a cd player with a detach face or just carry your deck pullers with you and remove your cd player everytime it works trust me. If you must motor swap your car leave it all stock looking on the out side and get a good alarm. Like stock exhaust and all or a aftermarket muffler with a normal stock looking tip. You could also get those tire lock boot's that cops use when you have to many unpaid parking tickets and plan to tow your car. Build a custom ebrake lock that locks it up that is a pia to remove unless you know what your doing. They also have the brake lock's which lock the brake pedle down to the floor and are hard to cut apart. That's all I got.

There's a whole forum on here about security and audio. Start by reading the FAQ's on there, search for stuff that the FAQ's didn't answer, then ask any specific questions you come up with
