p72 gsr oil pan vs ls oil pan
General consensus says the p72 gsr oil pan is "deeper" and requires the gsr oil pickup tube. Tell me everyone, which of these two oil pans id the "deeper" p72 pan?

Seeing how you didn't even get similar angled shots of the pan I will disregard the pictures (even though they look to be the same depth). Even still the LS is the same pan and windage tray as the B16. The difference between the two is the baffle for clearance of the GSR girdle and deeper windage tray.
However, the sump is different for the GSR but I am not sure what exactly is different. If it is the depth, clocking, or girdle/main cap bolt pattern. Either way you need to use the one that matches to the block unless all that is different is the depth of the sump. I can tell you a GSR pan will fit on a LS/B16 block though.

Ill get better pictures, but the positioning of the pickup tubes, including their depth is the same. The baffles are exactly the same except the p72 is different to clear the girdle on the back side. If I can find my measuring tape ill get more pics up. The actual sump area is identical

That's what I said haha... maybe I didn't word it well about the baffle in the pan. Let me recap:
LS/B16 = same part numbers for oil pan, windage tray, pick-up tube
GSR/ITR = different part number for pan, tube, and windage tray than LS/B16
Only difference between GSR/ITR oil pan vs LS/B16 is the baffle for oil slosh. The baffle is cut back on the GSR oil pan for clearance of the girdle.
Difference in the windage tray for the GSR/ITR is it is deeper contoured for the girdle and the LS/B16 is more flat with only a slight curve.
The pick-up tubes have different part numbers between GSR/ITR vs LS/B16. My assumption is that the bolt pattern is different due to the mains being different. But again, I don't know for sure. Since all the engines pretty much have the same oil capacity I doubt anything is different height wise.
Now, for my question to you. What exactly is your question/the point of this thread again? (Just curious, as I am interested in the difference between sumps honestly - I should stop being lazy and just go compare my B20 vs my GSR ones hahah.)

The only 2 differences between the ls and gsr pickup tubes is the strainer in the pickup is a bigger mesh on the gsr, and the mounting bracket is different since the gsr mounts to the girdle and the ls mounts to the main cap.
The point is more or less so people know they CAN use the p72 oil pan on an ls engine with no other modifications.
Every search I did was either inconclusive or said it would not work without the gsr pick up tube. It annoyed me that no one had a definitive yes or no on the subject.
But yeah, the baffle isnt really cut, they just give it a hump on the back side to make it clear. More or less like you said
Anyways, my ls pan is beat up, and may or may not still have bearing dust hiding in it, so id rather use the nice p72 pan.

Ok good deal. Pictures of the sump differences would be awesome if you could. By "cut back" I did mean what you described, poor word choice on my end.
I didn't realize people didn't know you could put a GSR pan on a LS. Now the other way around could pose a problem, and I have never tried it personally (maybe I should - I have the parts to do so) but I have in fact used a GSR pan on a LS with success because of the same reason you are haha. Well good job on pointing all this out. As long as these engines have been Frankensteined you would think myths like this would have been disproved long ago. But that is the Internet for you.

Ill try posting pictures of the install height of the pickup tubes and such. Its kinda tricky since the ls sump bracket is lower than the mount point vs the gsr. Its times like these where I wish I had a good right angle ruler thing.
Im suprised more people dont know the gsr pan works on the ls no issues. The ls will not work on the gsr though because the girdle hits. (I had someone say it wouldnt work because the pickup tube hits but I dont think he realized the girdle was the issue.
