Like it says...oil pan drain plug threads got stripped.....is a redrill possible to a larger-size drain plug bolt? or would it be advisable to merely go for a new pan? my only b*tch is that i'll be doing some swappage at some point, and don't really want to get a new pan at this point.

you might be able to re thread it the same size for now until you can get a new pan. It prob wont leak if you rethread it but it still would be a good idea to eventually get a new one.

make 110% sure its the pan
not the plug.

the plug is MADE to strip before the pan

i would go to honda and buy a pan plug and compare the 2. see if the threads are rounded.

but if it is the pan, you should replace it.

if you want to get technical about it, both the bolt AND the pan threads are stripped.

so obviously i need both then, right?

you wont 100% know untill you put a new plug in
they are like 1$ at honda just go buy a handful.

i thought my pan was stripped
put a new plug and washer in
stopped the leak.

My mechanic welded a steel nut with the same thread size as the drain plug over the existing opening. Use same drain plug and gasket.

He said stripping those threads is common. Welding the nut on fixes it for good. Seems to be working for me on my 94 Accord.

He's talking about welding the nut that the drain plug (bolt) screws on to since the original thread was jacked.

There are many thread repair products available. Among the most popular are Helicoil branded products. Check an industrial (heavy truck) parts house in your area if your chain auto parts store can't help you.

Welding or JB welding a nut with the same thread size seems like a good idea. Cheap too!

anyone know if this idea will work? i have a plactic plug drain on my stripped pan and it leaks alittle.

i just rethreaded the pan to a slighty bigger one and attacted a 1" copper pipe and cap to it workin fine

These stripped plugs I think have something to do with the damn QuickyLube places. These kids tend to tighten the plug WAY too much.

Oversize drain plugs work well.

I wouldn't use JB weld on the oilpan. I have seen JB weld melt, plus it is a lot less resistance to twisting.
