My friend has an LS/Vtec that intermittently runs hot. We have replaced the radiator because it looked like it had alot of build up in it, just now replaced the water pump(which wasn't bad), and bled the system for air pockets. We have also pressure checked the cooling system and it holds pressure without any leak down, which makes me think the head gasket is still good. Also , no water in oil. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Also tried different fans to make sure it wasn't a fan going bad. Sometime it runs hot with normal driving, then sometimes we can give it hell and it holds around 200 deg. Please help with this issue.

go buy a thermostat from the honda dealer

Has new thermostat in it, tried 2 new ones. Also just replaced both radiator hoses just so we new they had a better chance not to collapse.

how old is the swap??.... maybe the block needs flushing.... maybe a bad coolant/water ratio??

where did you get the thermostat from?

The motor was rebuilt about 8 months ago, and the thermostats both came from AutoZone. As far as coolant mix, we have tried the 50/50 mix and tried a mix around 70/30. Think maybe its the hoses (5/8) from the t-stat housing to the intake manifold/head.

Go to the honda dealership and buy an oem thermostat, i tried a thermo from advance and autozone and my car ran anywhere between 210-230

i was gonna say, 200 isn't really hot at all.. most cars run like 215-25 avg temp

may sound kinda dumb but i've had cars run hot on me cause the radiator cap was bad, the rubber seal after time will crack check it out

with an oem thermostat my car runs at 180-185. an oem thermo is rated at 78c 172f for our cars, 200 is hot, and the thermostas you buy at advance and autozone are garbage, and are normally rated at 195. They will make the car run hot

do u have an oil cooler?, cuz i heard that the head doesnt squirt oil cuz it doesnt have jets to help lubricate and cool the motor? but i kno for sure u need an oil cooler if u dont have one yet.

with a bad cap, you will lose pressure. when you lose pressure, the boiling point is lower.

i had a 91 hatch with a zc turbo and it mysteriously did the same **** and i finally found the problem it had some pin holes in the radiator but it wasnt leaking or blowing steam fix the hole no problems after i dunno but i guess it was loosing pressure like the guy above said good luck with that

u might put hte thermostat the wrong way

also could be the radiator cap
and could be how u bleed the system
