Default JDM D15B CAM vs D16Z6 CAM - INTERESTING INFO

hiii.. i registered with sohchonda recently for the bare fact that i wanted info about the JDM D15B cam.. i came up with a post in which user 4Dr has given pictures of d15b vs d16z6 cam to prove that the d15b cam is infact different cuz it looks different due to thinner lobes.

http://sohchonda.com/v-web/bul...art=0

i went to my local junkyard today to look out for a d15b vtec motor so i could get the cam and compare it against my z6 cam. heres what i found . it really is surprising...

i found 5 D15B Vtec motors with head stamps PO8-3. we took the cams out from all the 5 motors and the cams were just like the z6 cams. i mean the lobe wasnt thin at all.. we measured the lobe height and it was exactly the same as the d16z6 cam lobe height as given in the honda workshop manual..

what took us with surprise was when we opened up three d16z6 motors with head codes PO8-6, PO8-3 and PO8-5

we found the lobes to be thin in PO8-6 and PO8-5 (it is exactly the same as the d15b cam which 4dr showed in his post) and the PO8-3 z6 head had the cam with the fat lobes.... exhaust lobe heights were the same (38.00mm) for all the cams (d15b and d16z6) but the cam with the thinner lobes had intake lobe heights greater by about 0.2mm for all the three lobes.

now surprisingly i came back home and opened my d16z6 stamped PO8-6 and found that it had the same cam with thin lobes. ( i really am confused) is there a possibility of a JDM D16z6. cuz the junkyard guy told me that these engines come from singapore....

but the PO8-3 Z6 head had the cam with the fat lobes and the intake lobes were lower in height than the other z6 cams with thinner lobes. aggggghhhh

so ive eye witnessed FOUR D16z6 engines and FIVE d15b engines... heres the conclusion

1. all d15b's had the same cam and it had lobe heights exactly the same as a d16z6 given in the honda workshop manual.

2. 3 d16z6's had the cam with thinner lobes which 4dr was reffering to as the d15b cam and one d16z6 had the same cam that was found to be in all the d15b's

3. the cam with thinner lobes has the same lobe height for the exhaust and infact has larger lobes for intake by 0.20 mm (for all three lobes)

what do u say? i really am confused

LOL.. this means that the d15b cam is no different from the d16z6.....infact there could be a different version of d16z6 running the cam with thinner and higher lobes for the intake.

this starts another mystery for the d16z6 with agressive stock cams LOL...

what was the stamp on the blocks?

the p08 z6 head in the united states was only made from 92-95, so im pretty sure the p08-6 head you opened up cant be usdm

D15b cam is not the same, I will create an article and take some pictures to compare my old d15b vtec against d16z6 from ex. The D15b cam has advance duration and timing, and its vtec and exhaust lobes are more aggressive by .10 mm in lift. The D15b has thicker lobes while the d16z6 has thinner lobes. Easy to tell, the cam gears are the same. The head seem to be identical, (P08-1,5 JDM)(2-4,6 USDM) but I'm not sure if there is a difference at all in valvetrain.
