my alternator/charging system problems
A recent '95 jdm gsr engine into a '94 eg hatch swap.
had the typical charging system failure symptoms and then the car dies. I change the alternator, still not kicking out 14.4 volts, drive it around a bit, seems to be fine. A few days later now (car sat), the battery light comes on then everything fails.
The battery light never came on with the first alternator in there. and the light only comes on at low rpms.
I've tested about everything i can think of except for this supposed fusable link that i can't find. Grounds seem to be good. Fuses look good. ECU?? better not be.
can anyone help? this sucks. BTW im using a d16 harness
thanks,
d

Re: my alternator/charging system problems (Eyewitness)
thanks for the response. Any idea of how to check for shorts?
Also, does the ecu ground by being bolted in. Its sitting on the carpet now. Just a thought i just had.

Re: my alternator/charging system problems (daver)
i checked the chassis harness of a handy dandy '92 eg i had sitting around and it seems there are several extra wires it has that my '94 doesn't.
Besides the vtec wires, and the auto tranny wires, it has wires i A12 and A16. The hybrid site lists them as an "engine coolant temp switch" for the A12 and alternator "ALT C" for a16. As per the p72 obd1 ecu pinouts list
My '94 civic doesn't have these wires. I assume the p72 might need them. Anyone else run into this? Sounds like a possible solution to my alternator problems...

Re: my alternator/charging system problems (daver)
