Default How easy is it to burn a clutch?

My friend is getting a car soon but is worried about getting a new manual transmission car because all he knows how to drive is an automatic. He is planning on getting a beater car to learn stick in for a month or so first. He's afraid that he will burn the clutch if he gets a new car. I told him to learn the basics of stick in a friends car and then just continue practicing on his new car instead of wasting 1000 dollars just to buy a car to learn stick. I am just wondering if you can seriously mess up a clutch by just learning on it and stalling etc.

he cant mess it up by stalling. tell him not worry about it. just dont ride it and slip it too much/or too long.

yea the only thing that will screw it up is if he rides it too much.
its probably not gonna hurt anything because it only takes a few hundred miles of street driving to learn one.

most people can get stick down in a few hours. but i wouldnt worry about burning the clutch. you really have to be a sucky driver to burn the clutch out learning how to drive it.

ya.. don't worry about it. However, drag racing can burn a clutch, but if ya burn out your clutch that gives ya a good reason to get a new part for your car

well under normal driving, it's pretty hard to totally burn out a clutch. Just dont do stupid **** like go 35-40 in 5th put the clutch in rev to 7-8K let clutch out, and ride the rpms down with the accelerator.

why not just buy the car and if he burns out the clutch he can just use the $1000 that he was gonna use on the beater for a bad *** racing clutch instead of blowing it on some p.o.s. car.

just a thought
later
