also invest in a helms manual. will save you a lot of time and headaches. BTW I know the procedures but it will benefit you a lot more if you have the manual with you.

disconnect battery, pull the lil covers that are on the steering wheel dissconect the harness for the airbag undernieth the bottom panel on the steering wheel. then u need a torx bit or torx screw driver to remove the screws holding the airbag. take those out and remove the airbag. the rest is simple. hope that helps somewhat

Wrong, SRS has a capacitor, u must discharge it b4 touching that bag cuz it WILL blow...any voltage (even statik) will blow it...i would have the dealership pull it...

Unplug the battery and let everything sit for 3 minutes. If you feel like touching the battery cables to each other, go ahead. After that, just remove the covers, unplug it and unbolt it. This is what I do all the time, at the dealership.
Never store it face down, it will go over 35 feet up in the air if it deploys. Ask me how I know.

Let's not go crazy, it's not that sensitive. I have removed a few without disconnecting the battery, and never set one off when I didn't want to. And it's spelled "static".

its not that sensitive. ive done a bunch of those at work. and the acura models are a lil more sofisticated. almost everyone ive done ive never disconnected the battery. i go immediately for the harness plug. just be careful. as long as you dont create a circuit when u take off the harness youll be fine.

hey is this the same procedure people here uses to remove the airbag light that comes on when u take it off and install an aftermarket steeering wheel on? I've searched on here, somebody here wrote the procedure but he took down the photos for some reason.

so what is the correct way?for the past 5 yrs ive been doing wood wheels on the acuras and so far none have blown. and if you go straight for the harness there is no current. and the voltage in the capasitor goes away after few minutes.
what other way is there to do it?

Well it's lucky that you're not working with any other car. Some take over 12 hours to discharge before you can safely work on them.
In New Zealand our Occupational Safety and Health would run you out of business for doing it how you do.

Honda specifies 3 minutes, so I figure they know what they're talking about.

And what about some poor guy who reads this thread and thinks it's the same for all cars?
Noone posted a disclaimer saying don't try this with another make.

Re: how do i safely remove my steering wheel w/ airbag?? (ryanstev)
but on the other hand if you try to do some thing by your self and you know you are not certified or trained to do so- every thing you do is at your own risk- the first time i shot my front springs out was at my own risk only heard some one talk about how to do it- then you learn maybe thats why there are tools/manuels for how to do things correctly ! but hey i like my airbag!

I'm sorry, but if we were to take your advice, EVERY message posted here, or anywhere on the internet, regarding modifications or repairs to someones vehicle would have to come with a 3 page disclaimer, saying we aren't liable for damages, at your own risk, etc. This is a crybaby country, no one makes you do anything, so man up and take responsibility for your actions. This is not directed at you, but seeing someone say that my advice should come with a disclaimer just irks me a little. It is up to the individual as to what action to take. It was suggested that he procure a shop manual, and I fully support this, as it will give him unerring advice for his particular car. If someone came to Honda-Tech to get advice on their Mercedes, it's their own dumb fault if they knock their head off with an airbag.

Re: how do i safely remove my steering wheel w/ airbag?? (sARCASTiC)
All you got to do is take off the possitive terminal and negitive terminal and touch both wires (not the battery post). By doing you will discharge the capacitor and you won't have to worry about the air bag exploding
When working with the air bag system you might want to ground yourself if you don't have the kit all you got to do is touch the body/shell of your car and make sure you relieve the ESD (electric static discharge).
****all it takes is six tenths (0.6) of a volt for the airbag to discharge, proper grounding will prevent ESD****

Most information on this board is directed to Hondas, but can also be applied to non Honda makes.
I think when you're talking about something as dangerous as air bags it's not a big deal to type in a single sentence pointing out that some cars will take hours for the air bag to become safe to work on.

Re: (ryanstev)
I agree, many people don't know the proper procedures for delicate things like this. As someone who has worked exclusively on Hondas for years, I don't know thing one about any other make, and don't pretend to, so I don't know if they have different procedures for handling the SRS system. I hope you realize I wasn't recommending this as universal information, but it was directed at the individual making the request. I wouldn't want to get people hurt, or give someone incorrect information.

your wrong
and to the people who say that acura does it diff is wrong, ive seen 2 diff dealer do it with nothing but battery off, pop the panels and then use a t-30 to take the bag out, then they have alittle srs connector to reset the light
