Default Honda CRV Revving in Neutral

Hey guys,

Looking for some help troubleshooting my 2002 CR-V. In the summer I overheated the engine, and I had the heads removed and machined (they were warped). It was sitting without being run for probably 3-4 months before it all got put back together. I put in new oil and a new filter (the oil was milky from water leakage) and now it's doing this...

Any idea what might be going on? I'm wondering if either the Head wasn't repaired fully, or if it had just been sitting for so long, or if maybe I put on the air filter/intake area wrong, but I'm not experienced enough yet to know for sure what's going on

DId you replace all teh gaskets for the intake when you put the head back on? it sounds as if you have a HUGE leak on the intake side.

I bought all new gaskets. Also it revs up to 2500 and then down to 1000. And if I pump the gas once in neutral it will change to revving faster and to 2000 instead

The guy who put the head itself in said "Ask him about number one cyl exhaust lobe having flat spot from metal transfer and them saying it was ok to use as well."

Classic vacuum leak signs. Air is getting past a gasket between the throttle body and head.

Do you think this could be due to the flat spot or would it definitely be from when it was put back together?

I think it has nothing to do with a flat spot, when an engine revs like that it is due to air coming in, if the throttle is closed it has to come from somewhere. If you paid someone to assemble it, they should be at your side helping look for the leak.
You also should make sure the idle is set correctly as well, I recommend following the service manual procedure on setting idle per the ecu you are using.
If you don't have a service manual, get one.
