HELP!!! 98 Accord failed CA smog test - high CO but low NO
98 LX 4 cylinder, 131k miles.
My reading is:
15 MPH RPM 1871
CO2:14.1%
O2: 0.5
HC(PPM) MAX/AVE/MEAS 56/9/27 <<a little bit high for a honda but is in range
CO(%) MAX/AVE/MEAS 0.51/0.02/0.68 <<< FAILED!!
NO(PPM) MAX/AVE/MEAS 443/57/1
25 MPH RPM 1864
CO2:14.0%
O2: 0.5
HC(PPM) MAX/AVE/MEAS 40/7/28 <<< a little bit high for a honda but is in range
CO(%) MAX/AVE/MEAS 0.49/0.03/0.74 <<< FAILED
NO(PPM) MAX/AVE/MEAS 730/50/4
I have replaced 2 O2 sensors, PVC, distribute cap, spark plugs, spark plug wires, new oil just before the smog test. the cat is less than 2 years old.
Because of the low NO (way below average) reading, I suspected it might be low compression such that the combustion temp is too low. I have my compression checked by a mechanic and it turned out to be ok. I drove the car 20 minutes on hwy just before the smog without stopping the engine so the car was hot. What could be wrong? Could it be the fuel injectors are fouled? Would gumout fuel injector cleaner help?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
