Default gsr compression #'s...too low???

i just did a compression test on my 98 gsr (H/E, 50K miles) and got 165, 170, 170, 175. i've heard that gsr's should average about 200 across the board...are my compression numbers a bit low? what could be the problem? any help/advice would be appreciated...TIA.

disconnect the distributor harness and disconnect the harness of the fuel...which is by the clutch inside.

then step on the gas and crank the engine several times

since your compression is pretty equal between cylinders that can rule out some things. i would check the head gasket first, usually low compression is the head gasket when you are running the car real hard. Another thing i would check is the piston rings. Do a leak down test on all cylinders, if you are leaking some, that will also explain the low compression. Another thing you can check is the valve seals. But watch your coolant closely because if you are leaking coolant, and you have low compression, that is most likely a head gasket. Hope this helps...

yes...the test was done right...fuel injection fuse removed, all plugs out, accelerator floored, engine cranked at least 5 times. how much would i expect to pay for a leakdown test?

yes those numbers are low. i got 230 230 235 230 on my gsr...at least your numbers are consistent. I would have the leakdown test done as others suggested
