Default Fix-A-Flat VS. Spare Tire

I always thought for some reason that Fix-A-Flat and related products will indeed fix the flat, but afterwards you can't add more air or something. Is there a downside to using those products or can you inflate/deflate your tire as normal after using them???

Fix-A-Flat definately doesn't fix all flats (something you don't want to learn the way I did). Adding more air shouldn't be a problem, but I wouldn't consider it a permanent repair.

if you have nice rims, don't use the fix-a-flat. I learned that the hard way. then I found out it was my valve stem that was where the slow leak was...and it seeped out, and attached itself to my rim, and I just can not seem to get that poo poo off.

You should what fix a flat does to your nice alloy rims...

it eats the hell out of the inside of your rim..
makes taking the tire off the rim a B!?@#
and doesn't always work...

keep your spare and check it's pressure when you check the rest of your tires

Every time I've ever needed a spare, fix-a-flat wouldn't have helped...

If you hit a pothole and bust the wheel, you're frucked with a nice shiny can of fix-a-flat in your hand

Carry a spare... Please?

fixa flat sucks! got a flat and put in some fixa flat, finally realized there was a huge hole in the tire, stuff got all over the rims and on my hands.

get a stealie and buy a cheap tire, keep it wiht you at all times.

Fix a flat is good for one thing- ruining tires- unless it is an emergency- don't use it.

If you're going to use fix-a-flat, remember to drive straight to a gas station, deflate the tire again, and re-inflate with AIR... the gas that they use to pressurize the can is extremely flammable..... you wanna see a blow out? hehe... that'll really give you a "blow out"

Thanks for the replies. I do carry my spare always. I thought that if there wasn't really a downside to Fix-A-Flat that I could save some weight and not carry the spare. Oh-well, no loss. Thanks again.
