In desparate need of carb gasket repair kit for Honda Civic - December 1987
I am driving around the world for almost 10 years with my 87 Honda Civic DX, Japanese made, imported to U.K. Now in Mexico with a leaking carburettor which Honda can no longer supply a gasket kit repair kit for. They can supply the diaphragm pump set, which seems to be the offending part, but it makes sense to replace all the gaskets etc if I am taking the carb out. Only problem is this gasket repair kit seems to be like rocking horse dung...
Suppliers in the U.S show different gaskets than my car has even though listed as 87 Civic. Also the Carb Hospital in the U.K cannot match up my gaskets, seems to think that it,s not an original carb, which I don,t think is the case seeing history is known since 16,000 miles.
Anyway, so I don,t end up seeing out my days in the city of Oaxaca in Mexico if anyone can offer help and advise I WOULD BE ETERNALLY GREATFUL....
Hope to hear from you...
Many thanks,
Jon

The best I can suggest:
Parts stores generally have 'universal' gasket material rolls, so you can trace/cut whatever you need.
Last I had an 86 CRX Dx, also, carbed, but I never needed to rebuild it. Later I had a 91 Civic Dx, so I swapped it t ZX6R carbs, all 4 of 'em, they didn't need rebuilt either. Other bikes have needed it, but they were different also.

Hey and thanks for the reply...
I am a little confused though. You talk of two cars a CRX and then a Civic, but mention 4 carbs, also you go on to mention motorbikes so I can't really follow the thread.
I hear what you say about the gasket roll. The guys at Honda here in Mexico already replaced the gasket for the float chamber with one cut and made from some gasket card or whatever. Problem is the diaphragm pump which has a circular rubber disc, and it is this that seems to be casuing the leak now. This is what I need and is found in a repair kit....if only a repair kit can be found....
I found a website in the U.S which has pictures of a repair kit for Honda Accord's circa 86-89 with carb engines. The gaskets look the same, certainly the shape anyway. Honda in U.K cannot comment other than to say Honda Accord's in U.K did not have the same carb, but as for the U.S, they can say nothing...
The plot thickens, now with the viscosity of concrete....

32/36 DGVE Weber carb conversion may be the best long term solution if you do in fact still have the original, factory carb. I've done a little reading on this lately as my brother is planning to do this to his '84 CRX.
it's more money upfront than finding the gasket kit you need, but the benefits are 1) spares and rebuild kits are widely available as this is a common 2bbl conversion carb for many vehicles/engines 2) the conversion eliminates the snake-nest of vacuum hoses in the engine bay reducing the potential for leaks and so on 3) depending on how you set up the Weber, you could get more power or better fuel economy than you are now.
if that's too big of an undertaking for you, try contacting these guys:
Formula H, Vintage Honda Restoration, Service, Maintenance, Repairs, Middletown, Newburgh, and Monroe NY
I would assume they have access to or knowledge of some vintage Honda parts suppliers.

Thanks for the post...
That restoration garage in New York looks somewhere i'll definitely go on my travels and i'll hit them up to see if they have any advice.
I'll bear in mind the weber conversion, but i'm the closest yet to finding the gasket kit, which will be lighter to post, cheaper to buy and would keep the car as original. Seems a supplier in Finland has one listed. Hope there is someone who speaks English as the recorded message I just heard was like gobbledeegoop....
I'll keep you posted....

Edging closer with the Finnish connection - have now actually spoken to someone from another department so hope tomorrow to hear from the parts team...
As for the engine, it's the original B13B1, carb I'm pretty sure is orginal as well, but not sure the make.
As for webber, I don't really want to pull out the money for a new carb and deal with getting it to Mexico if I can keep the original going.

Thanks for the message...
A gasket has already been cut for the float chamber, but a circular rubber and metal disc seems to be the offending article. Certainly not impossible to get someone to make, but not as easy as a gasket or buying the other rubber seals...
I learnt to today that a Honda dealer in Finland just scrapped the very parts I need....doh
I may just sort a temp carb out to get me moving safely and then fix the original up later back in U.K, maybe trying to get those parts made if I have to...

Re: In desparate need of carb gasket repair kit for Honda Civic - December 1987
Thanks to all those who offered help and advice....
Eventually I found what seemed to be the only gasket repair kit in the world for my 88 Civic's carb, at least according to Honda's parts listing. It is now winging its way to Mexico from Cairo, Egypt of all places.....
There is a God after all....

Just read this and had to say, dang dude thats gotta be rough. It gets hard to find parts for old hondas. A rubber diaphram is what meeded to be replaced. A lot more complicated then a simple gasket. I agree upgrading to a weber would help keep you on the road longer since weber oarts are much more plentiful
