Denso or Mitsuba? (1992 Accord F22A1)
I am trying to figure out which starter is required for my F22A1 engine with 4 speed automatic trans. I was told by the people who sold it to me that they had replaced the engine, I'm not sure about the tranny, but I am having problems with the starter to where I have to beat on it to get it to work. I recently replaced the starter that was already on the engine with one from a junkyard while trying to solve a crank/no start problem (turns out it was the distributor or maybe just the ICM) and I think I should have kept the original starter. I'm not even sure if the one I got is the right type. This time I want to buy a reman from RockAuto, but I want to get the right one. I keep seeing Nippondenso vs. Mitsuba, and judging by the photos it looks like the solenoid on the Mitsuba is larger - but those photos could just be generic pictures of a starter, especially the off-brands.
Does it matter? I want to get the right one, but if it doesn't really matter then I'd rather get the Mitsuba which is about 30 bucks cheaper and if it does actually have a beefier solenoid maybe that would be better. The car is a LX, but again since the engine is not the original I don't know if I can go off that. Like I said it is a F22A1 with auto trans. Thanks for any help, the sooner the better, as I am completely over having to get out and continuously beat on the thing.
