.060" off the deck(s) puts the cam timing at 5 degrees retarded.

You can find general info on lobe centerline cam degreeing on the Comp Cams website. You'll need a Cam Degreeing Kit pieced together by Comp Cams or the less expensive, but functionally identical one by Summit Racing.

De-greeing cams is very technical to a beginner. Find someone who knows how to help you. 109 centerline on an intake cam means that the cam reaches max lift 109 degrees after TDC. On the exhaust, its number of degrees from max lift to TDC. You have to have a dial indicator and a degree wheel. Cutting .060" off the head will retard the cams about 2 degrees at the cam gear/ 4 degrees at the crank....as long as you dont change the thickness of the head gasket...3gdude

I thought the general rule of thumb for decking and cam timing changes was:

for every .012" you mill off the decks, you retard the cam timing by 1 degree.

thans a lot. i will retard the sproket 5 degrees. also what is the optimal ignition timing setting for a d16z6 with the cam and i/h/e and pulleys

using the info you people provided, i retard the cam timing 5 degrees and the car runs fine. now all i have to do is to go to a dyno and fine tune it

true, for B-series cam gears - depends on the diameter of the gear - for instance Integra D16A1 has larger cam gears and would be 1 degree at about .040" cut

the d16a1 have two cams and the d16z6 have 1. i am asking about the z6

tested the car on the dyno and it makes 138 hp to the wheels.only one run not tuned, cam timing at 0 degrees.ignition timing set at the stock setting.
