Default crx si chokes/dies when given gas

Ok so this is my first post ever.. I use this site all the time and finally registered. And..I would really appreciate some help.

So friendo'mines 91 crx si was running fine, then started to cut out intermittently while driving. Next day it didnt want to start, had to crank it over for a while before it finally ran. Next day wouldnt start at all.

Ive been using parts off of MY Crx which runs great, to try and fix hers, since I'm positive they all work.

So I put my dizzy in and it fired right up. Idle was a tad high. Idled for about 5 minutes til we shut her down thinking problem solved. Fired up again and gave it gas and the engine choked and died. almost like there is air in the fuel line. Problem just got worse, itll idle for 5 sec then die. Now it wont start at all. Itll crank for days and every now and then almost start.

Checked the rail and there IS fuel getting to the injectors(which are good) but it stops at the FPR. Which also works for sure. So I thought maybe fuel pressure wasnt high enough to lift the valve in the regulator and return to the gas tank. But when I opened the fuel line, pressure seemed unusually high..but I dont have a pressure gauge. So could something be telling the ecu fuel pressure is too high kill the engine? or is it just not getting enough fuel to actually run? I was told the fuel pump was checked and the main relay replaced, and the ecu isnt spittin any codes at me..so I'm stumped..

Ive checked the dizzy, plugs, wires, FPR, MAP, resistor, injectors, fuel filter, vacuum lines, fuses, all of which are good, and when put in my car, all ran fine.

Sorry for the novel, but thats whats goin on, and I really need some advice. This is her daily driver, and is in NO position to lose her job. Please help..

It sounds like a main relay issue, especially the crank no start. Next time it does that make sure the check engine light comes on for 2 seconds before start up and cuts off (indicating the fuel pump primes). If the light stays on instead of going off and won't start then repair or replace the relay. If you look in the FAQ's there's plenty of write ups on how to do it. Also check the ground on the thermostat to make sure the grounding location is clean and the bolt is tight. This is where the main relay gets its ground source from and it can corrode over time.

The fuel pump primes, and the main relay has been replaced. As for the ground I dont know, I'll check it out. I guess whats got me puzzled is that itll crank for days, and youll hear it almost start. And the more time you give between cranks the closer it gets to starting. I also dont understand why the flow of fuel stops at the FPR, like pressure is not high enough to lift the valve and go thru, but at the same time fuel pressure seems unusually high. And the regulator is definitely good. I guess a pressure gauge would probly help eh?
Thank you for your feedback.
