Convert Distributor equiped Honda to Distributorless?
I've been searched on H-T forum and found lot of informations about converting a distributor equiped engine to a distributorless engine. Majority of the discussions recommend using EMS or TEC2, 3, 4, in other words, some type of standalone ECU. My concern is that, would there be another the way this can be done without the use of standalone ECU? Currently my distributor is pratically empty except for the cam/crank position sensors, and rotor. The engine is a B18B, and I'm using MSD SCI to eliminate the crappy ignitor (no ICM or ignitor at all). Any ideas or thought would greatly help me on this project. Forgive me if my idea is out of hand, I'm just a college student looking for the most cost effective way to build my car .
Thanks for any help in advance
Here is my ideas base on the info found at http://www.prostreetonline.com...eid=4
I'm thinking of using the MSD DIS2 and MSD Dual coil pack and wire everything as shown, except for the use AEM EMS. Anyone know what is on Pin A21 and A22?
Thanks for any help in advance

Thanks for the bump
This ideas is going to be put aside since I don't have that much of $$$ to obtain a MSD DIS2 and Dual coil pack yet. but I will experiment it in the near future. Just gathering information right now..

I've just bought a Ultra M.D.I. ignition. The Ultra is compareable with the DIS 2 (but far better) and works with the stock ECU. The Ultra is a little bit pricey, $800
Another option might be the Motec Ignition Expander ($300) and a MSD DIS-4 ignition.
The Electromotive HPX is a standalone direct fire ignition, but has shitty options for the ignition curve.

I agree with you on that... IMO I think standalone ECU is the most expensive component of a distributorless system, that is why not too many people running it

Thanks for the info do you know any site with information for the Ultra M.D.I? I seen that Motec made an extensive line of products but it kinda pricey . With the Motec Ignition Expander, do you have to use their ECU or you can run it on stock Honda ECU?
Thanks all for the reply

The Ignition Expander can be used with the stock ECU, but you should verify this if you think about buying one.

Find yourself two Mazda RX7 rotaries, and take their coil packs and ignitors. Magnecor can make you the custom wires for a little over $100. Then you can set up a waste spark system. You're on your own from that point if you don't want to use an AEM EMS.
