Completely Painting New Rotors To Prevent Rust. Will it last?
Hey guys, just looking for some advice, for a few years that ive been repairing cars, I have been painting the rotors before I put them on, but I only ever paint the center hub hump part, leaving the face and outside edge bare, which usually leads to rust, and my autozone rotors this time rusted in less than a year.
What I am planning on doing this time is paint the ENTIRE rotor, with atleast 3 coats, including the faces that the brake pads will squeeze against, will probably take me 2 days, paint one side per day so I can flip the rotor without marring the fresh paint
Has anyone done this method? Will it prevent the rotors from rusting for much longer than if left exposed to the elements? I like the look of rust free rotors.
Im assuming that if I do this, I can just install the new rotors momentarily with the OLD pads still installed, go for a quick rip and a few brake pedal pushes and the old pads will strip the painted surface area.
Then I can put the new pads on and properly break them in on the fresh surface? Has anyone done this method? Worth all the extra trouble? Or just buy a rotor with a zinc coating and run them out of the box

Well the pad doesnt touch the full face of the rotor, theres quite a bit that goes untouched if I didnt paint the faces that I think would be exposed to elements
I dont see a more efficient way to paint the entire rotor

Throw one coat on the edges and on the bell (and ghost any dark spots) with cast spray paint, throw it on the car 25 minutes later and stop worrying.

Even centric premiums rust quite quickly, especially on a DD in rain and salt
I think the paint method is great, , I personally have only ever painted the center hub bump, but I think your onto something painting the hole rotor completely and shaving off the contact area with the used pads before you change them
Only downside being the time of take the tires and calipers off more than once.
Has anyone tried this?
