Hey whats up h-t, need some help on learning to tune. Ok first off i know the basics of the tuning is to do such things as make sure everything is running right, tune to get more power and all that. If im wrong can someone please tell me or if im leaving something out.

Anyway im really interested in learning how to tune and would like to know what kind of tuning tools i would need such as software, labtop, and the wideband thing. Im not new to honda and engine building but new to the tuning part as you can tell. Also is there any type of schooling or could i actually teach myself or learn under guidance. If you took the time to read this and actually help me thank you very much.

sorry man it's just not that easy to tune. sometime so easy can blow your engine. easy thing to do is pay someone to tune your car, even if you DO know how to tune you should do it on a dyno. you will find out quick that a very high percent of people who do know how to tune still pay for it to get tune by someone else because anything can do wrong when you tune. good luck

^^^^agree 100% if you've got deep pockets and spare parts then go ahead.


for a good tune it takes someone who knows what they are doing, even the pros blow motors... there is alot to know and that can go wrong besides a/f ratios.

its no harm in looking into learning,

start by getting a good wideband that can allow datalogging to start looking at your a/f ratios

I've heard good things about EFI University but I don't know if they have classes in your area

yea thats what alot of people say, but i didnt think it would be a bad idea to try ya know but i think im going to give it some time when i have some extra money and see what i can do on my spare single cam so nuttin serious can happen. thanx for the input

Do you have a dyno local to you that you could spend time at? Maybe part-time work? Or even a temp position to learn?

Yea there are tonz but the fact that they already have people that know thier **** it would be tough to get involved and on top that i dont know them makes it even harder ya know.

It wouldn't hurt to go and even ask for some part time work or like i said, even temp (free) work. Something so you can start learning the ins and outs of why dyno tuners do what they do.


Just tell them you're genuinely interested in it, and try to avoid the part where you want to tune cars yourself ie: competition.

Yea i guess your right, definetitly worth a shot to just see if i could check **** out and see how it works and everything. thanks for the encouragement lol
