CEL CODE 6 PROBLEMS
Ok guys I'm Haveing a problem with my 92 civic A/t it keep throwing the cel code 6 ect coolant temp switch for the radiator fan. I replaced the switch with a brand new one and disconnected the battery for 10 mins and the light still comes on instantly as I start the car. The car doesn't like to start cold but once warm it start right away. I have jumped the connecter to the switch and the fans turn on so I know there's no problem with the wiring or relay to the fans. So why do I still get a code with a brand new switch? I also let it idle and get up to temp and the gauge stays in the middle and the fan doesn't turn on, the gauge never goes above the middle, I'm stumped idk why it is still throwing the code.

Re: CEL CODE 6 PROBLEMS
the coolant temp sensor has nothing to do with the fan. The fan switch doesn't throw a cel. The sensor you are looking for is under the dizzy. Make sure the wiring is still intact at the sensor because with oil leaks they tend to separate. If all together, unplug it and make sure you have your 5volts reference. This code will also give you hard start issue. The ecu uses this sensor to determine how much fuel to use.

Re: CEL CODE 6 PROBLEMS
Thanks for the service doc I really appreciate that, I just swapped my other sensor on to the engine and it still on, I'm going to measure the sensor when I get home to see if this one is also bad. I hope it's just another bad sensor so I don't have to mess with the wiring. Thanks again I'll keep you guy post when I get this fixed. Also by change what is the proper way to reset the ecu? Pull the negative cable off the battery for more then 15 mins?

Its very very easy.
Turn the key on without starting the car.
Disconnect the two wire connector under the distributor. Test for voltage. Should be 5v.
Test the actual sensor across both pins with the car completely cooled down. Should be around 2000-2500 ohms.
Warm the car up completely til the fans start coming on. Test the sensor again. Should be around 180-250 ohms.
Put all other sensors back the way they were. They are not interchangeable.

Thanks guys I found the problem when I pulled the pigtail off the red wire was completely ripped out of the plug. I cut the plug wires and went to the wrecking yard and got a new pigtail and put a brand new sensor in and it starts great no more code thanks guys I really appreciate it really.
