cam gear removal?????

Default cam gear removal?????

can cam gears be removed while the cams are still in the engine? The motor is a b18c1.........i know it doesn't matter what kind of engine but if i didn't include the engine type someone would ask!

Yes, they can. Be sure to break the cam bolts loose before you take the timing belt off.

I used an air gun to break them loose...they come with ease. I also did it with the timing belt off cuz the gun breaks it loose so fast that the cams dont turn. But if they did turn, it would only be slightly, and u would be able to turn them back.

Not to hijack, but anyone know how to get them off when the cams are out of the car?

I just slid a long screwdriver through the spokes of the gear and that was enough to hold them while I broke the bolt loose.

Helms says to put cyl 1 at TDC and use a 5mm pin punch through the cam cap and cam.

That is if the cams are in the engine. Out of the engine, a 1/2" impact gun would be the tool of choice.

if already out of car!!!!! i put a towel around the cam and stuck in vice to get the gear off the cam, i also used a 1/2in ratchet you pussies... (dont want to spend the 400 on a nice compressor yet) lucky guys
