Bent Valves Symptoms: Engine runs well after 3k rpms
I'm helping a friend with the following:
Car: 93 Honda Accord SE
Problem: Daily driven car that ran great...until... It was brought to me with the engine not running. It abruptly stopped while he was driving.
Diagnosis: The timing belt jumped time (at least 4 teeth or so on the cam/crank gear).
Follow up: I told him there was a good chance it bent the valves but the easiest solution was to reinstall the timing belt "in time" to see if any damaged had occured and see how it ran without pulling the head.
After installing a new timing belt the engine ran great at idle and revved normally. However I found that after a test drive, driveability sucked.
At a dead stop the engine will NOT move the car unless you give it at least 1/2 throttle or more. What's odd is that after revving above 3k rpms the engine behaves normally. It only drives like crap below 3k rpms. Hmm...
-No CELs, Good Compression. Timimg Belt was installed correctly and in time.
I pulled the head and found that all 8 exhaust valves made contact with the pistons. The valves still seat in the combustion chamber perfectly. No leaks, no light shining past where the valve seats in the head...
SO... is this a symptom of bent valves?? Have any of you experienced a similar scenario?
Just curious. I'm planning to replace the head and continue forward. What intrigues me though is that the engine yielded good compression numbers after I put the engine back in time yet still ran rough below 3k rpms...
Btw, 100% positive the timing belt was installed correctly and "in time". Double checked...I've done quite a few of these before.
Thanks for input, I'll follow up with results...

Sounds like bent valves to me. Especially if theres signs that they kissed the pistons.
I wouldnt trust a light test to see if their good. A leak down test would tell you almost right away
