Alternator work when jumped, battery wont charge.
I have a 1996 Honda Accord with a H22A installed, my Battery is relatively new, and I had it checked at Auto zone and they said is was fine. My alternator was recently replaced with a high output alternator from BOSS alternators, going from a stock 90 amp to a 170 amp alternator. I did this due to the fact that the car drops significantly in idle when accessories, lights, or A/C is turned on.
I have fog lights, a sound system, and some gauges wired in on the positive terminal. I know I should re-wire them into the fuse box but I was lazy. Thats not the problem, just to give you a visual, I have to jump the car to get it running and then it runs, I can drive, turn everything on, whatever. but if I turn it off for even a second whether I drove it for a while or not, the battery is dead. It is as if something is either pulling a lot of power from it or the alternator is not charging. the belt has to be custom measured because the accord or the prelude belt wont fit, so I am wondering if the mechanic put on to tight a belt, if thats even possible. or if the regulator inside the alternator is shot. I dont know and was hoping for some guidance so I don't have to spend bookoo dollars tracing this issue at a shop. I do remember after the alternator was put on a check engine light for electrical load something other came on, but its gone now. help.

Re: Alternator work when jumped, battery wont charge.
If the battery tested fine when the car wouldn't start then it's not dead. What exactly happens when you try to start the car? When the engine is off can you turn on things like the lights or stereo? The battery is just for starting the car and for turning on accessories when the motor is off. Once the engine is running, the alternator powers everything so if it runs fine once started, the alternator is putting out enough juice and the belt is probably fine. Make sure the battery terminals and all the wires connected to them are clean with a strong connection.

The battery is dead, i know becuase I took it to Autozone to get checked, they told me it was drained, they re-charged it and load tested it and said it is a great battery just was drained. I then took it and put it back in the car and it worked for a few days and then back to dead. unless jumped. nothing works until i hook up the jumper cables, then the lights come on and all the other natural bells and whistles. and then i can start it. but once i turn it off it is drained again, whether or not i drove it for a while. The Alternator is not sending a charge into the battery and while it is running all my accessories are draining it. I just need to figure out why. I am going to check the wires tonight.
