Default 98 prelude oil light blinking

I've read a few posts, but didn't clarify much for me. What mine did is, firstly the light came on when I first purchased the car a few months back, off a buddy (it's a 98 prelude base with 264k. I changed the oil and filter and it went away. Takes 4.8L It does leak a little, one little spot on the oil pan gasket and another slow drip from another. Never see noticeable oil where I park and i put at least 500k on with no problems. Then the other day the light comes on, it blinked and occasionally flickered or dimmed when the car starts at first but mainly just blinks. I did check oil obviously first thing and it was a hare below lower dot. I put about 1/3 Litre I had in, light didn't come off and still under the 1st dot, so today I grabbed another litre of oil and some stop leak (bout a litre as well), figured it might slow the leakage down. So I added the litre of oil and 1L stop leak. think there may be a tad too much (1/2L possibly oops) in now, so I may have to drain a tad and add little amounts to get that in between the dots right. It's hard for me to get under there at the moment. Might also burn off or leak within a week or two but I'd rather figure out the light asap. Would my light still blink if it's got about half a litre too much in? I will try to drain a half litre in the morning and check oil and try disconnecting the battery for a few min if that doesn't make it stop blinking and update my progress on here. Anyone know what else it might be though, or what this sounds like it is? the cars running fine as usual otherwise. Should I take it in to a shop if I can't get the light off that way? How hard to install and expensive are oil pumps or sensor? Anything recommendations?

Hi again. So I just drained a bit of oil and Checked the level, took it down to the top dot, so it should have close to the right amount. started the car and the red oil light still on, seems to be a solid red when I turn on the car, then I had to drive about 7 km to work, it blinks once in gear and driving. I know there's oil in it, any suggestions why the light would still be on? I have tomorrow and next day off, so thinking of taking it in to Honda to get them to take a look. Don't want to drive it with the oil light on, makes me nervous and drive like a panzy.

Well, it could be the pressure switch or the wiring going to it. If you are brave enough, see if it will go into vtec, if it goes into vtec and the oil light is on it's lying. Odds are it's the switch or the connection to it.

Thanks, will have a look tomorrow since I'm off and check the wires and see what I can see and clean anything that looks dirty. Where is the switch and sensor located? wish I had some jack stands though it's a bugger getting underneath.

Thx again, I took out a bit more oil, so that's at the right amount, but light still on. I phoned Honda and they have those oil pressure switches in stock so I'll grab one tomorrow for 35 bucks. I guess it's somewhere around the filter? I'm hoping I can do it from the engine bay?... cause I don't have jack stands. Hopefully that'll solve it, I'll post what happens if I can get it in there tomorrow

Thanks guys, I replaced the oil pressure switch and problem solved. Cars runnin good no worries! Thanks for your input. Only cost 35 bucks too, which was pretty good considering some repair costs or not solving them
