Well, I bought a 1991 Civic DX Hatchback with the stock D15B2 a month ago. It always ran cold and I figured it just had a stuck open thermostat. So I was like "no biggie Ill just replace it", turns out it had no thermostat at all. I didnt pay any mind to it and put my new thermostat in. Then I let it warm up, the fans came on and it continued to idle for 5 minutes without the fans ever turning off.

Went to drive it the next day and the car was getting super hot after 10 minutes of driving, it was even cold and raining.

The fans came on still, but car just kept getting hot. Didn't let it overheat though.

So I took my thermostat out and boiled it. And it opened, so it does work.

What could be the issue? Do I just need a thermostat that opens at a cooler temp? This one opens at 180 degrees. I got it from O'Reillys.

Head gasket shouldnt be blown. No water in my oil and vice versa.

Buy a Honda OEM thermostat

Make sure that it isn't in backwards, the heating element should be facing the engine. If it is in backwards it won't get warm enough to open up to allow coolant to flow.
