Default Your opinion from a mechanics price quote

So I have a 91 integra lowered by koni struts and Neuspeed race springs with a moderate drop. So my car pulls to the left on highway speeds. I took my 91 teg to an alignment specialist. So what he did first was swap the front tires. He drove it on the freeway. The car drifted or pulled slowly to the right. So as you may know, I have a bad left tire. He said the rim was ok just the tire is bad. They're Kumhos tires with 50% tread. I was about to leave happy. I'll just buy another tire. No biggy. Until...

the mechanic found things in the car that might need maintenance soon which are:
Inner tie rod
two radius rod bushings
front alignment

Roughly around $500.00!! with labor included. To me, I thought that was too pricey.
What do you think of this price?

radius road bushings are probably fine. hard and old but probably fine. to even mention that sounds fishy.

the inner tie rod might be in need of replacement. easy to check yourself.

im confused, the tire is bald but 50% tread? one tire is bald, the other is at 50%?

i have a slightly less worn tire on one side and its definitely affecting my alignment. not enough for me to care at hte moment but i will confirm tread depth does affect the cars alignment.

$500 for JUST what you said sounds like a lot. but then i have no frame of reference, mechanics need to make a living. but ive never gone to one. always do my own work, only the tire (and alignment) guy and smog guy touches my car.

I put the car on jack stands. Moved the wheel side to side. There was a little play. So is that the Outer tie or inner tie rod?

Bald? I never said the tires were bald. It just has 50 % tread life on all four tires. I rotate them every oil change.

i misread "bad left tire" as bald.

you have to figure out where the play is coming from when you wiggle the wheels. have a friend help out, jerk the steering wheel around and put your hand over each balljoint.

if a boot is bad, its a good chance the balljoint is bad.

Some of that work is fairly labor intensive. $500 is probably about right.

$400 - $500 is about right. It all depends on part cost and labor rate. Do you know the cost of the parts and the labor rate? Give me that info and I can tell you if he's tryin to screw u over or not.

sounds like a fair price if everything is done correctly. You never know what you might find once you start taking stuff apart. Sometimes suspention pieces are a bitch to install/remove while other times its fairly painless. If you feel like its too much $$$ then do it yourself learn something new.
