Suspension Tuning on DC2 with coilovers
Hey Guys, I am experienceing a ton of understeer and i had an idea that might fix it. Just need your advise.
I have a 2000 gs-r with koni sports and omnipower sleeve type coilovers which are
448lbs. in the front and 336lbs. in the rear. That spring rate setup is my problem.
What i want to do is just swap the front springs and put them in the back.
Has anyone done this with similar coilovers, skunk2, etc?
My complete setup is:
Omnipower sleeve type coilovers (Ride height is .25" higher in rear)
Koni sports (Full soft in front - 1\4 from Full stiff in rear)
ITR 22mm rear anti sway bar - stock gs-r front anti-sway bar
Skunk2 front and rear strut bars
Skunk2 front camber kit
Skunk2 rear lower arm bar
Custom made DIY trunk brace
General Exclaim UHP 205/50-15 (31psi in rear - 36psi in front)
Toe is set to .125 out in front and 0 in rear

Re: Suspension Tuning on DC2 with coilovers (chrisdavis6)
Hmmm the springs are the same size right (height)? Then it shouldnt be a problem swap the front with the rears and rears with fronts. So then, according to my calculations , that would make you about 6k spring rate for the front and 8k for the rear. For your car not to understeer, you'll prob need to turn the front koni's all the way up with that spring rate.
Or you can get another coilover with custom higher rates. I dont know if you can just order new springs, you might wanna check into that. Also a type-r front sway bar would be a good idea
Another way to help your car rotate would be some toe in the rear. Just a suggestion....
Hope this helps!

Re: Suspension Tuning on DC2 with coilovers (eksteve)
thanks for the suggestions steve.
I am going to try and swap springs this weekend, if it does not work then i will
probably just get a set of GC's with custom rates.

Update, just got a reply from omnipower and they said that the front and rear
springs are identical so they can be interchanged without any problem.

Don't forget to get an alignment afterwards. Even if the spring perches stay in the same location, changing the rates changes height, which changes toe.

Re: Suspension Tuning on DC2 with coilovers (TunerN00b)
I actually do alignments myself with strings and a home made camber gauge.
A lot of places near me will not touch a car with a modified suspension so i was
forced to learn how to string up a car and make adjustments.
Now i just need to take it a step further and get a set of scales.
