Replacing the "Backing plate" of Trailing Arms and Rear Axle
on a 92 EG Si...
I want to replace the rear discs, pads, bushings and shocks. When I disassemebled the rear arms from the car, I noticed a part of the trailing arm is all rusted. The trailing arm itself is fine. But where the caliper mounting bracket mounts and rear axle is mounted to, there is a seperate "backing plate", which is all rusted. Now, I can't find the name or part# of the piece I need to replace. I have only checked a few sites and Honda's manual. This part resides on the outside face the trailing arm is attached to the trailing arm by four t-50 bolts accessible from the inside. What's the name of this part? Will I be able to purchase it as a seperate? So far, I think my only option would be to replace the entire trailing arm. At $214 each, I would rather not. Any ideas or information would be appreciated. Mickey

Re: Replacing the "Backing plate" of Trailing Arms and Rear Axle (martyr1391)
That is part of the trailing arm assembly so it isn't sold separately to my knowledge and I have looked. The rust really won't hurt anything, and you will probably have a tough time trying to get those Torx bolts out, if you haven't already. You could always get the whole assembly media blasted or use a wirewheel to get the rust off and then repaint. Just make sure you protect the hub surface from damage somehow.

Thank you for the advice. I plan on bringing the entire trailing arm assembly with spindle, hub and rotor attached! to a machine shop (NAPA?). Yes... my retaining screws are way too tight and I can't get them out by myself. I bench 275 lbs, but I can't use basic tools to get those things out, including using PB and a heat torch.
