Default ******5 Lug/Type R Calipers on GSR/LS HUB??*****

So i got a USDM type r 5 lug setup for the front, legit. but the rears this guy said all i needed type r rotors, just press his 5 lug ITR spindle onto the hub(has new bearings) and get type R 10.25" or 10.3" rotors (i forgot) and the gsr caliper will bolt right up.

But it didnt, the brake caliper are way to small and doesnt clear the bigger rotors and doesnt reach up to its bolts on the back of the hub.

i looked everywhere but couldnt find a answer, i just want to know if doing this type of poor mans 5 lug to the rears will work and if the type r calipers is all i will need to bolt right up to the hub and clear the rotors.

i have 5 lug usdm itr rear spindle, type r rotors from autoparts store and a gsr caliper that doesnt clear the rotor.

please give me a good answer! before i spend more money.

you'll need caliper brackets off an EP3/RSX or ITR. though you should bite the bullet and get calipers too.

i know someone selling 01 type R caliper + bracket for a reasonable price. i am just wondering if it will bolt right up to the hub of my gsr, and will clear the bigger rotors?

They will bolt up with out an issue. Although you may want to double check the lenght of the brake line in the rear to make sure it reaches

thanks for the answer dude. glad to know the rear conversion will be done without a issue with the type r calipers, brake lines might be a little tight, but it will work for right now!!

this is interesting, the rsx/ep3 calipers will bolt up right onto the gsr hub? would there be any modification needed?

they're the same as an ITR, but upside down so you would have to flip left to right.

You will also need to modify your ebrake cables if go the EP3/RSX route.

you have to swap your original levers onto the rsx calipers. not that hard once you see them.

This should answer any question you may have regarding bigger brakes, what fits and what doesn't, what rims will clear, and what issues you may run into and how to overcome them. LOTS of info, so be sure to read it all.

I'm afraid I can't help you with axles. Hopefully someone else can chime in on that. As for them not working as well as they should...do you have a soft pedal feel?

I think crv's axles are 36 mm.

What master cylinder are you using? I had to upgrade when I went with teg brakes on my civic and it made a world of difference.

I am using 97' Prelude axles for anyone also wondering, they actually do work seen it on another thread on here..

but i do get the soft pedal feel still and it was a P.I.T.A to do, me and some buddys bled the rear passenger, rear driver, front passenger, front driver. many different ways still soft i do NOT get it at all and it grinds my gears lol.

however i do have the rsx calipers in the rear and just bled them the way they are sitting. e brake not working that great aswell.

i am using the oem 96' master cyl.
hope this info works and someone who been thru this can shoot me on the right path.

(maybe i should of waited and got the type R calipers lol)

you have to take the calipers off the bracket to bleed them (as bleeders are upside down)

brakes work like a charm now that alot of air was coming from the rear calipers. when i put the bleeder facing upward they bled great.. its a must i guess!

anyway the 5 lug went alright, everything together cost me around $1000. i fixed my issues with EVERYTHING said on this thread and it worked. great info guys thanks. i didnt have to modify anything on the car either which was good aswell

however, i have a slight strong vibration coming from the axles, i dont know the solution yet havent went under the car. im thinking its the driver side because the ITR axle i bought had its outer cv joint really really stiff i couldnt wiggle it around by hand.

heres some pics of the teg with completed 5 lug, again thanks guys who helped me out!
