Icon2 Question about 88 CR-X Lower Control Aarms!

Hey there Honda-Tech. I have a question. Well I currently own an 88 CRX Si which have the drum brakes in the back. I want to get aftermarket Lower Control Arms, But I have one problem/Question. Since I have the 88 model, The struts in the back of my car go in "Between" my LCA's. Not around the LCA's Like pictured here... Therefore I can't use the "fork" struts. I need to use the struts with the "hole" on the bottom. I'm not sure if I'm making myself clear. Basically the bottom line is, CAN I just simply purchase the Blox LCA's and be able to use the FORK Struts like the ones pictured above, Or do I have the get the complete 89-91 CRX rear suspension?

Not quite EXACTLY sure what youre saying. But Id imagine if you order parts that are meant for your car (by Y/M/M in description) they should be made for direct bolt in. So whatever problem you think you might have, shouldnt be if theyre made right.

Hope that might answer it......

Let me try and clarify it a bit more. The 88 Model CRX's require a different strut than the 89-91 (if I'm not mistaken) The 88 crx's have an LCA which requires the Strut to go Through the LCA. The 89-91 have the LCA which requires the Struts to bolt on AROUND the LCA. Like in the picture I posted. What I want to know is, Can I simply just order a blox LCA for an 89-91 and will it bolt on directly to my 88 so that I can purchase the rear struts that bolt on AROUND the LCA not Through the LCA..??

Here is a picture of the 88 CRX LCA. as apposed to the 89-91 pictured in the first post...
These LCA'S (which I have) require the strut to go THROUGH the LCA. (Which I don't Want). What I want to do is purchase the "NEWER STYLE" LCA'S and put them on my 88. But I'm not sure if they will bolt on directly. I want to know if I need to install the complete 89-91 rear suspension from another CRX?

Yes, you can swap them just fine.

Function7 makes LCA's that will fit both 88 CRX's and Integra Type R's:

Otherwise, you should be able to use any LCA for a 89-91 Civic/CRX, 92-95 Civic, or 94-01 Integra, but you will have to change the rear shocks to fit that type of LCA.

So I can simply order the 88-89 LCA's and they will bolt on directly? Now If it works, then I will have to order 89-91 Struts for my car. The front ones should be the same as 88 as well right?

Thanks for your help everyone!

The rear lower control arms and rear shocks are interchangeable between '88 and '89-91 models, but you obviously must swap both the arms and shocks together. Nothing else needs to be changed. If you want '89-91 RLCAs, all you'll need to use them are the '89-91 rear shocks.

Not worth it to use Blox LCAs though, which have junk bushings. OEM bushings are vastly superior to the cheapo Blox stuff so I'd recommend keeping the OEM arms.

They are.

Can anyone explain exactly why the Integra Type R and 1988 Civic and CRX rear lower control arms are designed that particular way? Why did Honda revise them after one model year and then reintroduce them with the Integra Type R?

there doesnt seem to be a clear answer to this.

but actually, all the civics and integras for the japanese market came with the "88 and type-r" style arms too. so its nothing special.

functionally they are the same. i dont think weight or difference in strength has anything to do with it. anyone can speculate if they want, but i have heard no clear answer as to why the US market got cast arms.
