Default Personal Experiences with Koni 2812/Penske 8760/Moton Needed

I'm looking for people's personal experiences with any of the following dampers, preferably on a Honda:

Koni 2812
Penske 8760
Moton Double or Triple Adjustable

The main things that I'm looking to learn from people's experiences are:

The level of factory support that was offered
Ease of rebuilding (which could relate to the above if the damper was sent to the factory)
The range of adjustability that you felt you had

For the purposes of what I'm trying to do, it would help me a lot if you could also tell me what spring rates you were using and on what track, but I understand that some people guard those numbers so the first pieces of information are what I'm really looking for.

I received my Koni 2812s about 2 weeks ago. I haven't had a chance to test them because the car isn't finished yet. They are for a 92 Acura Integra that I'm getting ready for the Honda Challenge/track car. These are custom made to order and took 16 weeks for Koni. I was promised 8 weeks but Koni is very busy this time of year, which I completely understand. When you order the shocks, they ask you very specific questions so they can valve them properly. As you may know, the 2812s are double adjustable for compression/rebound. The adjustment ***** are located at the very top of the shock for quick and easy adjustments. There are eight positions for both compression/rebound for a total of 64 possible combinations. The body is made from aluminum alloy and is about 1.5lbs lighter than the Koni yellows. The shock is about two inches shorter than the factory shocks, you can choose your own height. I plan on using 600lb front and 1000lbs for the rear initially, then buy more springs for testing. When its time to get the shocks rebuilt/re-valved, it should be a painless process, just send it to their NA headquaters in Kentucky.

I appreciate the info. When do you think your car will see the track next?

I'm hoping by the end of the year. Some of the parts I need to finish the car are still on backorder.

From the looks of your other choices of shocks, maybe take a look at jrz's, They offer double triple and 4 way adjustable shocks...

i have worked on, or do work on, a honda/acura that used both the koni 2812, and the moton triple adjustable.

contact user "andrie" for info on the 2812's, as he would be much better to answer some indepth questions.

I didn't have much experance with the 2812's but i know that andrie was very happy with them. As far as i know koni doesn't really offer any track side support.

Now on to the moton's something i have alittle bit more knowledge about. At grand Am races most of the time there is a guy from moton at the track. He can help you, and give advice, and so on. But if your not running Grand Am or World Challenge then i don't think you will have any at the track service. We carry spares, and when the time does come to have them rebuilt i don't think it would take long.

IMO the moton tripple adjustable has more adjustment then the 2812 (since the only experance i have had was with the double adjustable 2812). Something that is nice about the moton's is the nitrogen and the fact that you can adjust it. Something that the 2812's don't offer (at least im not aware of it if they do).

I can't comment on how the shocks felt though as im just a crew guy, but drivers of both cars (the one with the 2812's and the one with the moton's) both felt that small adjustments made a difference in how the car handled.

Thanks for your replies.

To clarify, I'm not really looking for track side support. I'm sort of just looking for someone at the factory to call in case some issue comes up. For example, "My car was doing so-and-so and I softened up the rebound but my data shows negligible change." I would hope that someone at the factory would be able to help me figure out if I need revalving or if there is just something simple on my end of things.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Koni setup as I hate the idea of taking a 75 pound weight penalty in H1. I have no plans at running WC or GAC in this car.
