Hi i drive a 00' Honda civic ex and my car is like a truck... stock height is ugly and i want to lower it. I have a budget of under $600 as i am a student working a minimum wage job. I've done a lot of research on coilovers and I can never find a product that is consistent. There's always a good opinion on it, and then a bad opinion. There's always something better than something. I just want to lower my car and tuck my wheels. I have 14' wheels and im gonna buy a 15' wheel after coilovers. can anyone recommend a good solid coilover for me? Im thinking about function type 1 because im not too concerned about ride quality and they have a lot of lowering capacity. Or im thinking about racelands because they're cheap and i just wanna lower my car LOL. I dont want lowering springs either. please help, im new to cars lol

You're a student not making much money, you can't have everything you want right now. It sounds a bit harsh but you must be imparted the wisdom of knowing your limits for your budget and not buying cheap crap.

If you're not interested in competition use then you will be well served by lowering springs and new shocks.

-Eibach Pro-Kit springs
-New KYB Excel-G shocks

You'll get a 1.5ish inch drop and fresh struts to ride on. Anything lower than that will chew through OEM shocks like my dog goes through rawhide. And your budget doesn't give you room to afford the equipment you need to go lower than that. As for a cheap set of coilovers, those coilovers are cheap for a reason, mainly a lack of QC at the production level which leads to all that wonderful inconsistency in the units. What are consistently reported as good? Koni, Bilstien, Tein, KW, ect. And those units cost money.

The above parts will reduce your wheel gap and the car will be more fun and responsive to drive, and leave you a bit of spare money to make sure your ball joints and tie rods are all in good shape.

OP....as long as you dont care AT ALL about ride quality or...really...anything besides lowering the car...f&f type 1's are what you want to cheaply slam the car.

You're going to regret spending the $600 later. But now is not later. So YOLO yourself into some shitsticks to lower the car with.

But...honestly, it's all a waste of money. You're just throwing away money to lower a car for laughs. You know it's going to turn out BADLY...but you're going to do it anyway.

I'm not condemning that at all. When I was 17 and broke and didn't care about anything except slamming my EF because it was my second car (I had a 240SX with a SR swap also) and I just wanted to do it for laughs....I spent $35 on some eBay sleeves and rode around like that for years. I did it to so many other cars that I would buy as daily drivers.

I couldn't throw away $600 knowing full well the result was going to be bad. I'm not saying this to be an *******. Honestly...just go on eBay and buy some $35 sleeves and throw them on your stock shocks. Same effect as F&F 1's....and you'll have saved $565. That's knockoff wheel AND shitty tire money.

I've ridden on F&F1's and I've owned a car that the previous owner put F&F1's on. The $35 ebay shitsprings on my bumpstop slamming stock shocks rode just the same....but maybe a little softer.

Again...my comments are not in any way negative towards your mindset. I'm just sharing my own outlook....the $35 option is just as good. It's what I would have done.

Edit: I don't know if F&F1's cost $600 or $400 or $200. They should cost about $35. Or maybe $100 because they come as shocks and springs.

For the 600 range get progress cs2's
I have them in my da. They ride great. They arent a million way adjustable super ultra slamming whatever fucktarted **** companies splatter on their dog *** stuff.

Theyre just height adjustable, have shorter struts, and are pretty rock solid. Replacment parts are easy to get too.

OP buy ebay coilovers, Emusa on ebay to be exact. They are $359 full coilovers that will lower your car. Just like bserious said, those are the same **** as f&f type 1's, raceland all that, just under a different brand name/ vendor etc. Ride quality isnt even that bad, mine held up thru some ****, I mean seriously. Never sag or anything like that, no noises... blah blah. Alot of the ebay coil stories are from people who bought the coil sleeves to put on stock struts and not the full coilover.

If you just want to be low, and get some better handling. Save $200 bucks, then go for what I said.

You should chop the springs off and bolt the control arms to the frame. That's the best way to lower a car.

I agree with B serious. Get the cheap eBay coilover sleeves and call it a day. You obviously arent driving the car for performance. All you care about is the aesthetic of lowering your car and you're willing to sacrifice ride quality to get it. Save yourself the money and get the cheap coilover sleeve to go on your stock shock. Hella JDM slammed yo.

yeah, there is no problem at all with cheap coilovers like raceland. I have a buddy with racelands and they are great quality, easy to install and ride like oem. The reason they are cheaper is the lack of dampening adjustment, and you don't need that unless you are tracking the car. I would go with Raceland over ebay stuff if you have the money, just an opinion.

And one could argue that a $35 ebay coil sleeve on stock shocks "rides just like OEM", and is cheap "because there's no damper adjustment". Those statements would be as truthful as yours.

the last thing our community needs is a bunch of integras rolling around on fake ebay parts. i apoligize for not being specific enough for your liking. You cannot adjust "ebay coil sleeves" like full coilovers and RaceLand is a quality, trusted brand of cheap coilovers that will not crap out on you after a few months. Raceland also comes with a warranty to back up their product, unlike ebay sleeves.

Sorry man...."get Racelands, they're a quality setup" is a crazy statement. A google search on raceland reviews will show that *some* people get lucky and get a decent set. Most people get what they asked for.

Yes, racelands are FAR from the best quality in a coilover setup, but are far superior to ebay sleeves. If you have a strict budget of under 500-600 bucks, you wont find a better new adjustable coilover set.
