Default Low speed grinding under braking

Hey all,
I am getting a weird, faint grinding when braking at low speeds. It appears to be coming from both front brakes and only when under 25mph.
I have 2001 GSR with 96 spec 4x114 ITR hubs and brakes.
The pads are practically brand new.

Did you refinish or replace the rotors?

The rotors were new as well. I did notice theybare starting to get a smooth glaze over them. When I brake it reverse they make tons of noise...

If you didn't follow a proper pad bedding procedure, then that sound is simply you grinding your pads down. Bed them properly, and see if it fixes things.

If you did bed them when you installed them, then you should start looking for anything that might be making contact. The squealers, for example, could simply need adjustment.

Is there much sideways clearance between the rotors and the brake brackets? The new rotors will be somewhat thicker than the old/used ones, and if some offset is not quite right, then the rotor could possibly contact the bracket. If everything is right, then the rotors should be pretty well centered within the brake brackets. If you take the wheels back off, then maybe take a look... - Jim

Follow posts #4 and #5, and check the dust shields.

UPDATE PROBLEM SOLVED: It was the catalytic converter heat shield that mounts to underside of car. I took it off and BOOM! Problem fixed.
