Default kw variant 3 coilover question??? HELP PLZ

So I was thinking about upgrading my coilovers to kw variant 3 coilovers. I liked the alot about the coilover plus I hear the kw ride is very nice.

One concern I have is my car is actually mostly a drag car. Although I like spirited hill runs from time to time since its my DD and don't want to have like a 18k rear rate.

What I was wondering is how the kw variants would do for drag I think they come with helper springs and softer spring rates usually. Would this affect my launch dramatically.

Can you verify what spring rates you want when you buy a coilover from kw? Thanks

Please Help me out

Different coilover suggests welcome something adjustable and not to harsh ride. I currently have omni sports 12k front 10k rear no adjustiblity

For a DD that softer rear rates are needed for comfort, why not try using spring rubbers in the back when you drag?

No personal knowledge about KW suspensions, so no comments from me there.

Softer rear spring will affect the launch. You'll get more launch squat. How much that actually affects your times, I can't say, but it will make the car take longer to settle into the launch.

like tunernoob said. i dont see why you dont want a softer rear spring. the stiff spring will kind of act like a "wheelie bar" and like he said will help with squat. as far as kw.s i have never ran them or nor anyone locally within hondas with them. i have read MANY good things about them though. i would probably have a set if i had the extra scratch. hope that helps.

I didn't want softer springs in the rear. I was wondering how soft the kw coilovers where. Since the kw spring rates are usually lower and come with helper springs. Which seem like a progressive coilover idea i'm not sure.

I want a decent spring rate in the rear just didn't know if kw had stiffer springs.

What i said was i don't want like a 18k rear rate which is just no good for DD

I would be fine with another 12k front 10k rear set up if there was more adjustment available so it wouldn't feel so crazy bumpy on the rebound.

I know suspension basics and for a real race drag set up you have to have 12k front and 18k rear. I was wondering specifically about kw and what there spring rates where on the kw and what purpose the helper springs have. An if anyone drags these coilovers.

Thanks for the replies but just wondering about KW mostly

Where have you read that KW's spring rates are "usually lower"? Which model, and for which cars? Helper springs are used because height is adjusted with the spring perch, and helper springs keep the main spring fully seated at full droop and there would normally be a gap between the spring's end coils and the spring perch and upper mount. In practice, a helper spring adds nothing to the overall spring rate, so if your main coil is linear, it remains linear.

You need to decide what your car is - a daily driver, or a "mostly drag car". Decent, good, stiff, soft, those are all relative to what your car is doing. Some would call a 1000lbs spring "soft" but that is because they run 1300lbs on their race cars.

There's no rule that dictates what spring rates will give you the best times at the drag strip, just like there is no rule that dictates what works well for an F1 car or a minivan. But there are plenty of rules that dictate what an individual manufacturer can/will offer off the shelf, and a reputable manufacturer will take most of this guess work out of the decision for you. If you are dead set on KW, call KW.

KW's spring rates are stiffer then stock but not outrageously stiff
most of their road holding ability is from their valving and with their V1-V3 coilovers you use the stock top hats so the metal on metal sound wont annoy you

thanks pic performance. I was looking into your guys coilovers too. Thanks for the helper spring explanation everything make more sense now. I thought that it was in a way like a progressive spring but that makes more sense.

for the whole in general 12k front 18k rear is usually that rate of most drag coilovers off the shelf ones that I have seem.

When I said kw has softer springs I heard some kw set ups relied more on valving and good shocks rather than stiffer springs to achieve better handling. I'm no specialist just what I heard. Thanks for the clarifications.

Just trying to figure out the right set up for me. Looking for a good set up for me. I've rode in other set up with stiffer spring rates than me but the rebound and damping is better so doesn't feel as stiff.

xxblazexx reply was what i heard more often the kw coilovers. I was not to excited about the omni's because got the none adjustable and they were jumping all over the road.

thanks for the replies most my questions where answered just still wondering if anyone ever drag raced on these.

if you liked the rates you had before but didnt like the shocks themselves then why not go with a better setup with the same rates?? also you keep referring to drag but then you mention spirited driving thru the hills...clarification?

What i mean is I actually use my car at the drag strip but would like to still be able to go drive on the hill without horrible handling.
