I'm about to order me a set yellow koni and gc for my em1 and I'm wondering how the ride adjustment sleeve spring perch stays on the shock. Will I have to cut or weld anything? Also, what's the range of ride height I can run with these? Sry if this sounds noob or has been covered somewhere else.

I am actually in the process of installing this setup on my EM1. When lowering the car back down you need to be very careful to make sure the spring/spring perch is seated correctly. As for when you're driving. I have seen people argue that when cornering hard you run the risk of the spring coming off the mount. I have also seen counterpoints saying that the sway bar prohibits this from happening.

With the GC top hats you can lower 3.5 inches I believe. With the OEM it's more like 2.5 inches.
You will most likely end up needing to cut out some of the rear lower control arm bolts, as they seize up pretty bad. I have to cut 1 of mine out once I find a sawzall or angle grinder. Major Pain. There are many posts regarding this problem.

Thanks. I'm prolly going with the stock mounts due to cost. I was just curious about how the threaded adjustment sleeve stays on the shock. All I am going off is pictures and it doesn't seem that there is any flange or perch for these to rest on. Do they come assembled ready to install? Short of the top hat of course.

Still debating if I wanna go with a koni/ gc setup or tein basis or progress coilovers. Leaning towards koni/gc but that might change if some modification welding is involved.

Here's picture of my brother's Koni's when he bought them...on each shock you can see the three "rings".....the middle one is basically a metal perch that the holds the GC sleeve when it slides over the shock.

The GC's also come with poly sleeves or o-rings that the sleeve slides over to keep the sleeve tight on the shock body. For skinnier shocks, the sleeve works, if not you use the o-ring.
