Default Koni/GC 450f/400r CRX received last nite...

Well i placed an order for the special from Weaksauce without tophats at the rates mentioned above. First of all, great guys, they had my order out quick, even though they mentioned that the rear shocks might be back ordered.

I recevied my shocks first, then I received the GC stuff last nite. So I then proceeded to do a preassembly. I started up front.

The sleeves slid down smoothly for the most part, but would not slide down all the way over the retaining clip on the Koni. I ended up tapping it into place with a rubber mallet and it sat nice and secure.

I had picked up top hats from a friend, so i had to press the metal collar into the urethane in the top hats, since i didnt have a press, I used a c clamp, worked great.

There were a few steps that had me confused, so i checked good ole' HT for some additional instructions and found out what i needed to do.

When I added the GC bumpstops that came with the tophats, I ended up slipping them on upside down. The reason for this, was that i noticed that the bumpstops would actually lodge into the tophats and stick there. I really would rather they had free movement and by inverting them I noticed that if they were forced into the tophat, they would slide back out freely and not get stuck. Minor thing really. oh and i did cut one ring off of each.

from there it was pretty easy.

Moved on to the rear - now the sleeves on these slipped on without even trying, not tight, but over the circlip. So I finish doing the same steps for the rear, and when it cam time to secure the 2 lock nuts to the top of the shafts, I find out koni had enclosed 3 of the right type of locknuts and one that was a totally different diameter and could not be used - so I cant really secure one shaft until i find a replacement.

Then, looking back in the box, i notice GC forgot to enclose the perch wrench? No biggie, i'll give them a call and Koni for the nut.

So now i go to adjust the height on the rears, and at first the sleeve starts turning with the perch? Anyone have that happen? I just held the sleeve as i rotated the perch until it had a little pressure from the spring then it seemed to stay in place a little better - i'm just worried that later, adjustment might be hard on the vehicle if the sleeve rotates - any ideas on this item? Wrap the shock with electrical tape to snug the sleeve?

Thanks in advance.

Also forgot to mention, the Koni's supplied with the kit actually had 5 different adjustment points for the circlip, I left it in the middle, but did anyone move the clip to a lower setting?

The location of the circlip only determines where your adjustment range is, and can be adjusted to suit your taste. Since the spring is compressed into a curve as the suspension moves, you can see rub marks of the threaded sleeve if you have too much of it above the rotating perch (I do anyway). If that bothers you, set the circlip higher, and have less threads visible above the perch.

5 adjustment points sounds like you got the Neuspeed version of the shocks. I believe the only difference is more perch locations and a shorter droop limiter, which I would not want with a GC tophat, but might be perfectly fine for you. I'm preloading my front springs at my current ride height (2 finger gap), and couldn't get this high if the shock had less droop travel.

I don't think GCs come with a tool for adjusting the perch. Mine didn't, and it hasn't been an issue.

I had all of my sleeves fit tight the first time, but I painted my Konis black before install. A daily driver GSR is enough of a theft target, without recognizable aftermarket shocks visible. But yes, the threaded sleeve can turn with the perch, just hold it in one hand and turn the parch with the other.

I was told by several difference people not to trim the GC bumpstops, as they are significantly softer and more progressive than the stock bumpstops. However, I don't think there's a problem with installing them upside down. I didn't, and like that htey stick up in the top hat. It allows me to see how much shock shaft travel I have left at ride height, when I'm playing with the car's height. It also seems to make it easier to use a zip tie to see how much travel is being used, as the bumpstop won't push the zip tie back down.

Also, you can install the shocks without the 2nd lock nut on one of the shocks. I had mine done that way from a rushed install for a few weeks, before puting them on, and nothing bad happened. I suppose there's a chance of them loosening, if the shock shaft rotates under movement, but it didn't happen to me.

Thank you, that was a very complete answer to all of my questions and concerns. I really do appreciate it.

hey how long did it take you to get the koni's and GC? I just ordered with weaksauce also... I got custom rates too, and I was curious about the turn around time on the GC?

I assume koni's aren't going to be too bad as I have the of the shelf set.

It was about two days for the Koni's to arrive, the GC's came in about a week later.

Thanks RS... I ordered my last week, but I guess easter and the Fact that I am in canada will make shipment times longer...
I ordered some 550 front springs and 450 rears for my GC... I figured that I would need something heavier as I have a swapped civic...
People have been running with heavier springs on the back, I might try that in the summer.

Cool beans. Like I said, great guys to deal with, i called them an told them about the missing locknut, and they told me they'll have Koni mail one out.

You'll be very happy with the suspension, i haven't even installed mine and I'm already happy with it, lol.
