Default Installed Comptech Subframe Brace with 22MM ITR sway bar & ASR backing plates

I'm happy to report that the ASR backing plates are compatible with the discontinued Comptech subframe brace. Their braces never came with backing plates; I feel that would be much better to add a backing plate to further lower the risk of subframe tearout. Here's my old and new setup for my EG.

Old setup; 13mm del sol sway bar, oem bushings, DC tie bar.

Size comparison with ITR vs del sol sway bar.

New setup; 22mm ITR sway bar, Energy suspension bushings, ASR backing plate, Comptech Subframe brace.

Overall the car handles very well, body roll was greatly reduced when I corner at high speeds. I'm currently using Tein basic dampers from an DC2 so the spring rates are 8k front and 6k rear.

Notes:

-Endlinks from a DC2, 92-95 EX civic, and delsols that are equipped with OEM swaybars are compatible with the ITR sway bar so if you plan to buy the ITR setup, you can either use your existing ones or pick them up at a junkyard. Buying endlinks from the dealer is a total ripoff.

-None of the USDM EG hatchbacks had a mounting spot for the endlink so you can use either DC2, del sol, or 92-95 EX civic control arms in order to do this setup. (You can also go aftermarket, but oem is cheaper, and has longer lasting bushings.)

-Energy suspension's sway bar bushings are slightly cheaper and more effective than the OEM bushings, so I would pick those up instead.

-The nuts and bolts used to install this setup MUST be grade 10.9 or higher. (You can contact ASR to purchase these nuts and bolts.)

-The Backing plates can be purchased straight from the ASR website.

-I'm also in the process of installing whiteline lateral locks to prevent lateral movement coming from the sway bar. Stay tuned for that.

Just got the white line collars in the mail. I noticed that I couldn't mount these locks on the outer part of where the bushings are located so I installed them on the inner part instead. Does anyone know if this will make a difference?

Not surprising since asr just copied the comptech and took all the weight savings and engineering out of it and sells a slab of aluminum with holes.

True, but comptech didn't have backing plates. That was a nice addition to the installation, even though it may or may not need it. It's better to be safe than sorry, especially after reading so many posts regarding subframe tearout.

Did you have to drill out the holes like you do in the ASR instructions since you are using the asr backing plates, but with the comptech bar?

9 years ago, I installed the Comptech rear ARB on my 2000 GSR, and set it to the stiffest setting. Since then, the car has seen 6 track days and at least 5 dozen autocrosses. My subframe is fine.

The fears, imo, are completely over-exaggerated, especially for something relatively tame like the ITR ARB. Run something like the ASR 32mm bar, and you might have a reason to start to worry.
