GC extended Top Hat for gc/koni
I heard the gc top hat gives extra shock travel room. How exactly does this work? Im assuming more of the piston shaft goes into the engine bay, which means that when using top hats your car sits lower. So it gives extra travel room by automatically lowering your car so that you dont have to lower it through the height adjuster? (Im considering buying it because my shock travel is like 1 inch, and Id like the car to be lower)
Well if anybody knows how it works please shoot me some knowledge. Oh btw, how much extra extension does the top hat give?

The gound Control Top Hat gives you another inch of travel to your suspention. Like in our other thread about the Top Hats, were trying to see if this new color is worth producing. let me know know what you think

The Ground Control upper mounts do not "add travel."
The total travel of the damper is fixed. What the GC upper mounts do is extend the rod outward about an inch when mounted vs. the OEM upper mounts, which means that the damper will have one more inch of compression travel but one less inch of droop travel. Effectively, you're gaining some compression at the expense of droop.
While this is often a good thing because the extra inch of compression travel is typically more usable in a lowered car than the extra inch of droop, the old saying goes that too much of something can be bad. I do not recommend using the GC upper mounts if you have shortened damper bodies (meaning shorter than the stock damper body length) for two reasons: one being that you'll end up with more compression than you can use (upper control arms will hit the frame), and the other being that you'll run into problems caused by lack of droop, such as wheelspin caused by lifting the inside driven wheel.
If you're using the GC upper mounts with stock-length dampers, you'll be fine.

Re: GC extended Top Hat for gc/koni (Targa250R)
Ok I understgand that, they add compression travel at the expense of droop travel. I think thats actually what I need because I have OTS koni yellows, and right now the car is almost sitting on the bumpstops.
Now knowing that compression travel can be alternated for drop length, and vice versa, if I grab the top hats, would this mean I can use the extra compression travel, and use the GC adjuster to lower my car .... effectively keeping the same travel I had before, but with a lower drop?
Oh and one more thing.... does the GC top hat have enough inner diameter room to fit the bumpstop, and to prevent the Koni yellow (which has a larger outer diameter) from whacking into the inner diameter of the GC top hat?
And yeah I like the color of the Top hats, kinda matches my konis =D

In order for the koni to hit the top hat you would have to bottom out hard enough to most likely blow out your koni shocks which is possible but then again would you want your car slammed if your driving on bumpy roads. I have koni on my car with the top hats and have never blown or bottomed out but then again i live in the city were the roads arnt too bad. the tops hats dont sit much lower than the stock upper mounts they just add about 1 inch more travel. plus with the konis its a lifetime warranty unless you damage the shaft of the shock itself. plus you have your bumpstop that would stop the koni from hitting the upper mount.
