Changing inner tie rods how to?
Anyone have a link on how to change the inner tie rods? I've changed ball joints and out tie rods but never attempted the inners cuz it looks "complicated". Any directions/suggestions are appreciated.. thanks!

take the steering rack out first. much easier to deal with that.
theres a lock washer that you either need to bend back, or just wrench off and replace with a new one.

Ok since you put it that way.. I need a steering rack how to then Is there anything I should know about swapping out the inner tie rods? Do I need to keep in mind the threads or anything? Do I need to change any gaskets or bushings? I have power steering btw.

The following is for an EG, but nearly all Civic or Integra racks are very near the same.
Removing the rack first is the "proper" way to change inner tie rods.
Using solvent and brush wash any oil and dirt off the valve body and its lines. Blow dry with compressed air.
Raise the power steering reservoir and disconnect the hose that goes to the oil cooler.
Connect a hose of suitable diameter to the disconnected hose that goes to the oil cooler and put the hose end in a suitable container.
Caution: Clean up any spilled power steering fluid immediately.
Start engine and let idle. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times.
When fluid stops running out of the hose, shut off the engine. Discard the old fluid.
Refit the return hose on the reservoir.
Raise front of vehicle and secure on jack stands.
Remove the front wheels.
Remove the steering joint cover.
Lock the steering shaft to stop the shaft from turning. Loosen the upper steering joint bolt and remove the lower steering join bolt. Move the joint toward the column.
Remove the shift cable holder.
Remove the cable bracket and disconnect the shift cable from the shift control shaft.
Remove the self-locking nuts and separate the three way catalytic converter.
Remove the cotter pin and castle nut. Install the 10mm hex nut on the ball joint.
Once the hex nut is flush with the ball joint pin end, use SST # 07MAC-SL00200 or equivalent and separate the tie-rod ball joint and knuckle.
Caution: Take care not to damage the ball joint dust boot.
Disconnect the three lines from the valve body unit on the steering gearbox and immediately seal the hoses AND pipes to prevent contamination.
Remove the left tie-rod end, then slide the rack all the way to the right.
Remove the steering gearbox mounting bolts.
Pull the steering gearbox down to clear the pinion shaft from the bulkhead and remove the pinion shaft grommet.
Move the steering gearbox to the right so the left rack and clears the rear beam.
Hold the steering gearbox and slide the rack all the way to the left, place the left rack end below the rear beam.
Move the steering gearbox to the left and tilt the left side down and remove it from the car.
Once it's out, you can unstake the inner tie and remove it with ease by holding the shaft with a 19 mm.
Reverse to install.
Another method, although not "correct", but WAY more convenient, involves a kit like the one http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...US293%26sa%3DN. Choose the appropriate insert and lock it into the sleeve and put your 1/2" ratchet to it and unscrew that beotch. I say this in technically incorrect, since you can damage the pinion if you don't hold the shaft while removing the inner tie. So if you choose to go this route, I'm not responsible if you f your rack up. In the event this happens, hey, you have instructions how to get it out

oohhhhhh ****kkkkkk , you do not need to take the rack off , go to your local autoparts and they will have a inner tierod tool , for rent . first loosen the nut on the outer tie rod but leave it on , hammer the hub arm into the tierod seperates and remove it make sure to count the threads , and use that tools to remove the inner one .

Muahaha that's funny, guess he didn't take time to read above him. I just found out my driver side inner boot is ripped into two pieces so I know dirt has to have gotten in there by now, and I checked because I noticed extra vibration on the gas pedal, smdh. I am broke until Wednesday and I have work 8 miles away for three more days. I wonder if I should get another boot for it or just don't drive until payday?

I just found out my driver side inner boot is ripped into two pieces so I know dirt has to have gotten in there by now, and I checked because I noticed extra vibration on the gas pedal, smdh. I am broke until Wednesday and I have work 8 miles away for three more days. I wonder if I should get another boot for it or just don't drive until payday?
And no your axles will not break in the next 3 days.
