Oil leaking somewhere between head and block...

Default Oil leaking somewhere between head and block...

Okay. I have oil that seems to always be leaking from somewhere around the top of the block. Well, between the head and the block on the left side. Oil is always around the block and tranny, all over the front wheel-well, and all under the front swaybars to undercarriage. It's really annoying to always have to clean that. I'm going to be taking the engine out and building it up slowly. Nothing too wild. Just a mild build. But during the course of the build-up, I wanted to know some pointers from you guys on what I should look for to change/replace. Thanks in advance.

Every single gasket and, if necessary, machine plug.

Every single rubber gasket there was to replace, I replaced already. So, I guess that just leaves the machine plug to be replaced?

distributor o-ring, valve cover gasket, head gasket, vtec solenoid gaskets

The machine plug(s) I refer to are the frieze (spelling?) plugs that block off oil and coolant passageways in the block and head. They can be tapped for pressure lines, extraneous gauges, etc., and you have at least three of them (2 coolant, 1 oil). One oil and one coolant plug sit below the distributor on the head and the other coolant one, to my knowledge is in the back of the block.

Are they called an oil jet by any chance or am I thinking about something else? I'll keep an eye on it once I get there. Thanks though.

No, oil jet is wedged vertically into the block between the block and the head.

All that's been replaced already except for the intake/exhaust mani' gaskets.

Yeah, that's the exact part I was thinking of. I've only seen them in the SOHC. Where would they be on the DOHC? B-series.

That's been replaced too. And no oil seems to be leaking from that high up on the motor. Mostly around the head-to-block area as far as I can see. I hear some ppl say to check the head gasket, but can oil really be leaking from there and the engine still running nice and smooth?

After taking the engine out this weekend, I finally had a better look at the engine (distributor side). When I had to take the distributor off because of the chains from the engine leveler hitting into it, I saw that the o-ring cracked/split. Odd, especially since it was replaced not too long ago. I hope that's all the oil problem was and nothing more.
