Motor oil 5W20 or 5W30
I have a 6 gen accord V6. I heard that the 2000 6 gen suggest using 5W30 and the 2001 and up suggest 5W20. Are there any differences in the motors from 98-2000 and 2001 and up??? I wonder why my 01 specifies to use 5W20? I feel a lag in my performance during the hot summer months with 5W20. I also hear that the 20 weight looses viscosity in very hot conditions compared to 30 weight. I'm considering on using 5W30 all year round. Is this a good idea. I dont feel as if the 20 weight is giving me enough protection.

honda suggests using the 5w20 so they meet stricter emissions standards....too thin for my florida ***.....stick with 5w30 or 10w30 for hot climates.

You can use either (Honda updated their oil viscosity recommendations). 5W20 will offer slightly better fuel economy, but you probably will not notice the difference.

5W30 runs a little too thin for me as well....i prefer 10W30. There was an article about this a while back in a magazine...can't remeber exactly which, but it talked about how the car manufacturers used the thinner oils to pass stricter emissions tests and to achieve the best fuel economy; however it was recommended to use a heavier weight motor oil. As for brands, Ams Oil is by far the best i've found.
