Default What do you guys think about this quote by Albert Einstein?

It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity
--Albert Einstein

Doing some homework on some quotes, and ran into this one, found it kind of interesting since it was said by Einstein...I'm trying to figure it out, but i cant seem to get a good hold on it though. What exactly is he saying in it?... that technology has become more smart than humans? any thoughts on it?

He's basically saying we've invented too much **** (hmm, nuclear weapons) for our own good and we're all gonna die.

Yeah soon we'll have an *** wiping machine that will pull our intestines out.

I agree, we've turned into a bunch of lazy slobs with technology.

Remember when people walked places?
Or you got up to change the television station?

EEEK!

That was WAY before my time...

We're doomed. We make computers that can do better jobs than we can. Then we lose our jobs to computers. It's the price of 'progress', i guess... Click the image to open in full size.

What I think is that technology advanced so fast yet if you look at the history of human beings it hasn't evolved much compared to people say 2,000 years ago. We still eat, hunt, work and sleep. Health and science may produced medicine, dietary supplements, understanding of diseases but I think it's much slower then how fast the technology is advancing.

It means our technological capabilities have expanded tremendously while our morality has remained disturbingly insignificant. Bear in mind this was during the WW2, so the quote's meaning would have been much more apparent doing those bloody days, though it will likely remain true for the duration of our existence.

Ai, like gold fall the leaves in the wind... long years numberless as the wings of trees. The days have passed like swift draughts of sweet mead in lofty halls beyond the West, beneath the blue vaults of Varda, wherein, the stars tremble in the song of her voice, wholly and queenly. I believe Einstein was one of the ones who was predicting humans would destroy themselves with nukes. That concern is what started the nuclear peace agreement, which NKorea just violated.

I may be wrong though. I suck at history.

Even think back to dueling.

It seemed the 'honorable' way. Killing is immoral at best, but now the advent of ::i hate this term:: weapons of mass destruction, we left it to a single weapon detonated miles from the front lines for mass murder of civilians.

Simply put, our means to kill severely outweighed our means to preserve life. Our technological advances were all sourced in wartime and no efforts were made for the betterment of our species.

World War Two:

Jets first used.
Guided Missiles first used (V1 and more importantly V2)
Atomic weapons first used
Wholesale murder of the Jews led to implementation of mass death camps
Mass destruction of cities far beyond the front lines first implemented
MG 42 (German machine gun capable of firing so fast that you could not hear individual bullets being fired) and the invention of the modern assault rifle (MP 44)

And then what?

We started using plasma?

Any other benefits?

we've gotten good at killing people.

its appalling that we as a country can put a man in on the moon and cant find a cure for aids/cancer/alzheimer. its appalling as humans to have to integrate our beliefs with others and not accept their differences. its appalling as a free country to try to police the world. its appalling that we involve ourselves in a religious war not of our own.

our technology has exceeded our humanity by creating something to destroy life instead of prolonging or creating it.
