How many miles?
I was thinking of buyin a 99 r6 with 31k miles on it for 3k w/gear off a local guy, about an hour north.
I'm kinda reluctant tho, cuz i'm not sure how long bike's typically last. The guy said that he took it to yamaha and had a full factory service, everything lubed and all seals changed like 3k miles ago.
Its gonna be my first streetbike, so i'm not too worried about breakneck performance, i jsut want somethin quick, small, goodlookin, and relatively cheap.
So how long do they typically last?

all bikes are different. for an r6 with this kind of mileage, i would (if he lets you ride it) really get on it in 1st, then shift into 2nd and see if there is any slippage or if it pops out. also, check the plug that goes into the voltage regulator for any signs of burning or shortage. easiest thing to do would be to just take it to a shop and have them rip into it.

Re: How many miles? (busa1300)
My project right now is a 83 Yamaha Vision 550 special edition it has 44 thousand on it and it runs great even after sittin for years starts up first time everytime all it need is to have it carburator syncronized and its all set.... This bike is very rare too. If it runs good go for it but have someone that u know that knows what there talking about look over it first.....

yeah, try to talk him down a bit. its a few years old, with more than a few miles. but to echo what the general consensus is, get it checked out and look over the receipts (if any).

Find out when the last valve adjustment was, the interval is 12k miles I think so it would be due soon. Plan that into your budget because it isn't cheap for the dealer to do but you can do it yourself if you are mechanically inclined.
Other than that, a well maintained bike with 31k miles shouldn't be a problem.
