here's the problem. The cam is at tdc for cyl1 but for the dizzy to fit flushed onto the head the rotor is firing at coil 2. What can I do?
btw its a 97 accord.

You're at TDC for the #4 cylinder, not the #1 cylinder. They both use the same mark on the crank pulley. Set the crank, the cam, and the dizzy all at TDC for the #1 cylinder and you'll be fine. Or just turn the engine over one revolution. Same thing.

No matter what cylinder I put at tdc the rotor is 180* off but when I rotate the rotor back 180* it will not fit flushed. I know that the dizzy can only go in 1 way it's just the fact that the rotor is off 180* and not firing to the right coil.

If it matters I just did swapped a new auto tranny in and while taking the torque converter bolts off the flex plate I manually cranked the motor while the dizzy was off. After done putting everything back together I tried starting it and it was trying to start but would just crank.

I dunno then?! Just play musical chairs with the spark plug wires on the cap and move them all over one or two places. That should work.

Wouldn't it fire wrong then if I place the cyl1 plug into coil plug 2 on the cap?

pull the dist.and take the snap ring off and turn it 180 and put it back on.that should solve your problem.hope this has helped,or im me if you need any more help.

I'll give that a try tomorrow . btw is their suppose to be a clicking noise that comes on before the motor cranks? And I also checked for spark like 10 minutes ago and didn't have any spark. I'll also check the resistance on that too.

Here I'll take a stab, I just had a similar problem the other day and others like this in the past.
First turn the crank till the Dizzy Rotor is pointing to #1, the crank pully should be on the TDC mark, if its not there are two things that could cause this:

#1: You took off your crank pulley and didnt reinstall it with the woodruff key, possibly making it totaly unalined to the timing marks on the block.

#2: Your Cam timing is off, most likely you loosened the timing belt, changed it, or what ever. Now your crank and cam timing would be totaly differnt witch would either make your car run bad or not run at all. Since the Cam and the Crank timing are differnt the crank pully will show TDC but the Dizzy wont.

P.S. - Most Honda Distributors are keyed so you cannot put them on 180 Degrees off.

i think i just encountered this problem when i took off my timing belt.. the cam timing may be 180 deg off..


my car wouldn't start after getting everything back together and i believe the suggestions given in this post will solve the problem..

it should have solved yours too..

sometimes the simplest things can even be overlooked...
