I have a question - I use Motul 8100, like it allot, however, why is 300v better.... what is the difference between the ester based 300v and the 8100??? I thought the 8100 is fully 100 % synthetic...

Re: Motul engine oil ?? (RaVAGE00)
300v has higher shear strength and more additves in it i think. 8100 e-tech is also ester based, which is what i use in my bmw. 8100 will last a lot longer under street conditions.

Re: Motul engine oil ?? (XenonDepot)
I use 300v in my turbo R. Seems to burn less than anything else I've tried, but it is a bit expencive.
I'd be in for a group buy for $5 a liter. I'd buy 20.

Re: Motul engine oil ?? (.RJ)
The 300V Chrono 10w40 I run comes in those square type cans - i think it's 1 liter which is about 2.1 quarts.
It's weird tho because you need to put more than 2 cans in.
I guess the conversion is off.
Anyways, if the wrong guy is working where I go it's $19/can. =P

I have used Mobil 1 5w30 from day one after the Honda installed oil was drained when the R had 3 km's on her. I switch to Motul 8100 5w40 about 5 months ago, seems the engine idle is a tad less noisy.... You will notice straight away the differences as far as how Motul looks and smells...
I like it... so I will stick with it.... but it can get a bit pricey.... especially the 300v at 35.00 Canadian for 2 Liters.
</TD></TR></TABLE>
wow $35 for 2 liters? that's cheap man
mobil 1 is $27 plus tax, it's only $8 different... good deal
do you wanna share where do you buy the motul for 35?

300V is better for boosted engines
1800V is better for street or NA engines
What is more expensive? A few liters of oil, or a fucked up engine? You chose!

$25/liter, that would be $125 per oil change, budget for some consumption along the way.
Say you expect to get 120,000 miles out of your engine. Thats reasonable, no?
Say you change the oil every 3750 miles (honda recommendation).
Thats 32 oil changes... A 5qt Jug of Mobil 1 or Syntec will cost $20. Thats $3360 over the life of the engine....
Enough to buy a new crate motor from honda.
*shrug*

Re: (.RJ)
comparing mobil1 to motul 300v, i noticed that the motor runs much smoother and quieter with the motul.
then again i was running 5w30 mobil and now 10w40 motul.
also my crate engine would fry the mobil1 a lot faster, so i had to change it a lot more often to keep the color golden.
the motul stays golden much longer.
i still want to try redline again tho.

Were you sending the oil off for analysis?

IF your engine holds on to 120.000miles!
In Holland you can buy only a new block for $3360. If you need a head also, you've got a problem!

That should be the minimum for a properly maintained engine.
A high stress, high rpm engine (ITR motor, E30 M3 motor, E34 M5, etc, etc) probably will not last 150-200K when driven hard.
