I'll answer you....
it is good.... 8100 is all you need unless you do some serious track work and have lots of money to spend on 300V.
5W40 is probably what you want to use.

just because honda recommends it doesn't make it THE BEST.... for your intentions.
we all use/drive our cars for different purposes...if you drive it primarily on the street and don't do any "performance driving" like AutoX or HPDE...
then one could argue you won't even need synthetic oil.
My car doesn't like Mobil.... (burns) my car seemed happy with Castrol.....

I have used Mobil 1 5w30 from day one after the Honda installed oil was drained when the R had 3 km's on her. I switch to Motul 8100 5w40 about 5 months ago, seems the engine idle is a tad less noisy.... You will notice straight away the differences as far as how Motul looks and smells...
I like it... so I will stick with it.... but it can get a bit pricey.... especially the 300v at 35.00 Canadian for 2 Liters.

I've been running Motul in my SiR for some time now, and I swear by it. The advantage of running the 300V over the 8100 is that its ester based. Motul did however just release a 0w40 8100 series oil in North America that is partially ester based. I'm currently running this oil in the winter months and am currently enjoying it. Its pour out till -60 degrees Farenheit.
You can't go wrong with either oil, as they are both terrific products. But if you do beat the living **** out of your car day in and day out I would reccommend the 300v simply cause of its ester properties.

Conventional multiple grade mineral and semi-synthetic motor oils, as 100% synthetic super-multigrade lubricants (5W40, 5W50, 10W60...) use additives to boost their viscosity (this is the case with the 8100 series oil (other then the 0w40 one, but its ester content is not as high as that found in the 300V and so some additives are still used)). These viscosity additives tend to loose efficiency when submitted to extreme conditions, which translates into a drop of viscosity and oil pressure. Since the 300V's from Motul, benefit from the natural viscosity of synthetic ester basestocks, they need very little of such additives, or none. Hope this helps.
And yes only the 300V is currently ester-based. But like I said, their new 0w40 8100 series oil is now ester-based. Whether or not their whole line of 8100 oil is going to be ester-based in the near future is anyone's guess. Currently however, its not.

300V or 8100/6100 ? Make your choice :

300V are especially designed for racing, Motul is providing to end-consumers the lubricants set up for the teams : that is to say that the products you can find on the shop shelves are the same as products used by the teams for races.
These lubricants have to be strong enough to resist at very high temperature, provide the best lubrication, reduce friction… In one word, meet all the stringent requirements for racing.
8100, 6100… are designed for common daily use : in this case, you will ask your car to start every morning, drive it in the stop-and-go traffic to go at work, and drive it back to home in the evening. To complete that you will not be agree to go for service too often.
Requirements for daily use are different from racing.
Motul 8100, 6100 … are made for that. In these conditions and with these lubricants, you will be able to follow the car maker recommended drain intervals without any trouble.

id go with the mtoul 8100 0w-40 b/c its mostly ester based. the 5w-40 is mostly pao based. mobil 1 is coming out with a new 0w-30 racing formula, so dont be scared to use a 0w oil. ester based oils have a super low pour point and thats what gives it a 0w temp. rating.

If your R is stock and daily drive i recommend 8100
thats what i'm using in mine and i love it
you don't need 300v unless you're running a high CR engine or boosted one like Moo-Man
also 300V here in Vancouver is like 20 something per litre
