I was in my local import parts store and saw the red JDM valver cover for b-series motors. It was $189. My jaw dropped. I thought to myself, i can do that for like $5. So i did.

So it turned out to cost only $4.29 and took about 4 hours, mostly waiting for the paint to dry between coats. In a week or so i am going to take it to my cousins shop and have it glass beaten and resprayed and also have the words "honda motor co" sanded and painted black. I plan on getting all my wires replaced with red ones soon too, i can get that real cheap. And the yellow nuespeed sticker in being changed to red. So, for all you flamers, yes it might be ricey but i like it and its not costing me an arm and a leg. Oh and just to warn everyone that decides to paint it themselves also - DON'T OVER TIGHTEN THE BOLTS THEY WILL BREAK. which is why my car is at the mechanic right now having two bolts replaced and the oil cleaned from all over the engine bay. Yeah, so that 7ft/lbs would have been very useful to know. I got a call this morning from the mechanic, my valve cover is cracked. I am in the works of getting a new one though. I guess sh*t just happens.

EDIT AGAIN:
Finally have a new cover coming, its green painted but is getting my cousins treatment anyway. So, all together the project has costed $54.29. I still have to add my mechanics bill from the new hardware and labor (sure to be a rip) but still less than a brand new one!!

a trick to not getting paint on the letters is to put vasaline on the letters. Paint wont stick that area then.

I heard chapstick is easier, but either way will do the trick.

i was going to do the vasoline idea but i didn't want the inner parts of the letters not to get pained, plus i knew i was going to get it redone anyway so i will just shave them later and paint black on them

should look good i think.

what color and type of paint did you use?

also your valve cover ground wire is wrong.

shouldn't matter, metal is metal. but since he painted it i think your right. i forget if thats plastic that the screw goes into under the cam gear cover part.

but i'v seen grounds there before.

My ground was like that when i got the car, so i wouldn't know where else it would go.

I used Kreylon Safety Red paint for high metal temps.

Oh and i cleaned my engine bay with a power sprayer and tire shine.

id put the ground back where its suppoesd to be, not sure if where it is right now is metal...also the valve cover bolts are suppsosed to be torqued to like 7ft/lbs...

A red valve cover and red plug wires will look ugly. Keep the wires black if your valve cover is red.

i agree. what you should do is pick a color to paint your metal parts. then pick a different color for all your hoses and wires. i think that looks best. black and red are soooo awesome together. i'm thinking of taking my badging off, painting them black, and putting them back on.

everyone has told me dont powerwash your engine bay....it mostly leads to trouble...

Run the engine while you wash it and no water will leak into the engine. It works great, all my friends have done it for years and i have done it twice myself with no problem.

It would work without the car running too. Water probably has a better chance of getting in from the vibration and stuff.

There are JDM LS valve covers, not Type ARRR red though. So yea, BS flag can be thrown.

who said anything about JDM valve covers for my LS? i know they don't make them. Yes, run the engine, after it has already cooled, then spray the car. I don't know why you are all trying to flame me, i am just showing you what i did and how i did it and it worked well for me.
