Default Best way to invest $7000 CASH to get the greatest returns?

I have like $7000 cash in my savings account now and was wondering what is the best way to invest it? I'd like to save up for a downpayment on a house...but hopefully wont give into temtation and get an 03'-04' Evo 8 instead.

Mutual funds are a fairly safe bet. But with the market in it's current state of disarray, you might have to wait a while for returns.

When would you be buying a house? If less than a year, short term bonds/bond funds, money markets, or CDs are some of the options you'll want to look at.

ps. "mutual funds" come in many, many flavors. Some are very risky (eg. non-diversified funds that buy stocks), some not (eg. money markets, or short term bond funds that invest in investment grade bonds).

Some good, basic articles here as well: http://money.cnn.com/pf/101/

hmm, how soon do you want returns? long-term IRA's are always a good bet. Short-term, well, Mr Ludecrs covered that.

Thanks I'll sure read up on that and educate myself. but for now I have that cash in my Fleet One Gold Money Market Savings account. I'll ask around and see what investment options are out there

I'm looking to get a house next summer. I have a goal of saving like $25,000 for a downpayment by June-August 2004, and I already have a 746 credit rating.
My parents also offered to help my buy the house too so we'll see what the money situation is like a year from now. i'm willing to spend up to $100,000 for a house in FLA as long as I can find a decent paying job there in my field, and am willing to spend up to $150,000+ if my parents help me.

When I sold my Hype R, I put the proceeds in a seven-day, self-renewing CD. After the initial week, I could take money out of it whenever I wanted. Sure, it had a fairly low yield, but it was better than statement savings.

Pros: Money is doing something while remaining liquid
Cons: Low yield

Damn, you can buy a house for $100,000 down there? In these parts, that wouldn't even get you into a one bedroom condo.

yeah there are some places in FLA where you can get a 3 bed/2 bath/2 car garage house for around $100K but those prices are going up I think....

I also considered San Antonio Texas as well, they have plentyy of houses for like $100K there, but I'm afraid that it might be too hot/boring over there...I need to take a vacation there and see what its like

bet wisely on sports

most online casino's will give you upwards of 20% or sometimes greater bonuses when you open up an account...put in $5k and youll instantly have $6k to bet with. i have a friend who runs a site selling picks tickets and they currently have a 80% win rate

I'm not the kinda guy to take risky investments. I need to be sure that my principal is protected or at least guaranteed from loss of value if I do invest it.
