Car has 297000 miles on car. I need some help. The car was having idling issues when it was cold outside but once it warmed up it was fine. Wife took it through inspections and here are results. I was having issues with it idling and I got a new IAC and FITV. This fixed the idle issue. But didn't help with the emissions problem much for idle.

Here are results from both attempts. Could it be the cat or oxygen sensor?



I'm not throwing any codes on car and The car is getting like 29 mpg still. It really is running great or so I thought.

Also should I try retarding the timing a little and see if this helps?

how old is your CAT and O2? what are your Hydrocarbons supposed to be under? For some reason I thought it only had to be un 300PPM at idle

The limits are what is suppose to be under. so 220 for idle. The cat is the original. The oxygen sensor is at least 5 years old.

bump i need to get this car through emissions so I can sell it bump. I think I'm going to try retarding the timing. I read this might lower hc but raise CO?

297k miles and a stock cat.. you cat is probably pretty clogged up. your o2 might need changed soon also..

How old is the distributor cap, rotor, and plug wires?

Have you checked the ignition timing with a timing gun?

Cap and rotor are new. Plug wires are pretty new also maybe liess than 6 months. I need to get a timing light on gun. Because I'm thinking the distributor is advanced a bit. So I'm going to try to check in the morning. Thanks for the replies and advice guys.
