Default HOW TO: SHAVE AND PAINT VALVE COVER (56k? don't think so!)

Since i have posted pics of my custom valve covers that i sell i have recieved toooo many messages and emails asking if i could do their valve covers, i can but i decided to do a tech for people that want to try it on their own.

all you need is: available any car store
large sharp file
large file not as sharp
wrinkle paint
electric sander or hand sand paper

my first attempt at paint stripping

it will take a few coats of paint stripper, so keep at it
with all the paint stripped begin with the sharp file and go across the letters kepping the file flat and trying not to touch the vlave cover because that will cause deep scratches that you dont want. use the sander to minimize the scrathes

as you get all the way down switch to the not sharp file and finish the job, and feel with your fingers, you will still see the honda sign but not feel it. sand if needed

same thing with the dohc vtec. this is my personal valve cover so i decided to shave the small honda motor co. letters also

no make sure the whole thing is clean and dry and your ready to paint! if you want to tape off all the spark plug holes and oil cap location, but because this is mine and not for a cutomer i did not do this, you wont see it anyways.

no the trick is the paint, shake well, apply a heavy base coat, the wait 5-10 minutes and apply a second coat not as heavy, then wait 5-10 minutes and apply a third, please do at least 3 coats, if you do only one or two you will not get the wrinkle affect correctly.
do not touch for almost 2 days, the wrinkle will apear in about 1 hr.
here is mine after 5 hours.

all done!!!

you can also buy wrinkle red paint or even just paint over the wrinkle black any color.

nice tutorial
do you think the shaved sections will kinda show up if I use a non-wrinkle paint?
I'm thinking of trying that

you can do it with out shaving, use grease or vasoline on the lettering or things you do not want to paint and after the paint is completly dried you can easily scrape it off. and i do use sand blasting to get stubborn paint off but it will not remove the lettering off the cover

if you use non wrinkle paint make sure to sand the areas very smooth with the sander, if it is all samooth and there are no marks it will look nice, i have done some with non wrinkle paint, my favorite colors were gold and gunmateal available at autozone.

looks good I've seen wrinkle black finish, but when I tried it it turned out horrible. Where do you get the wrinkle red paint? I've never seen it in the stores.
